I used to know one. then he turned 18 (legal age here) and now, 1.5 years later, he's more in his local bar than at home.

I knew one too, then he also went to college and found out no one really cared that much about underage drinking, so he spends his days working and doing jager bombs with random chicks.

Stupid or more likely just incautious / inexperienced. Underage drinking is fine if you don't go all-out on the first times.
