You know there's nothing quite as pathetic as listening to Australians talk about their Oscar wins.
For the record, according to most Australian radio stations the Oscars had five Australian winners which were as follows, (again, this is who the radio stations are reporting as the Australians who won):

Shaun Tan - Best Animated Short
Dave Elsey - Best Make-up
Kirk Baxter - Best Film editing

Now these are not minor awards and deserve to be celebrated but here's where it get interesting:

Emile Sherman - Won Best Film despite the handicap of not actually being a film. Yes he was a producer of the film that won but I do think it's a bit much to say that "he won Best Film" which is what the radio stations are saying.

Tom Hooper - Won Best Director despite the handicap [sic] of not being Australian. Yes I know he has dual citizenship and I know his Mum's an Aussie... but really, you can't say Australian born, raised, schooled, educated or 'works in'. It seems since none of these can be used these newreaders seem to simply default to 'Australian'. Might I suggest "Australian-conceived"?
