Since the 1.12 patch, the little picture you see is the Special Forces unlock or, Tier 2 unlocks. You can obtain these unlocks by having the Special Forces expansion installed. So for example if you play medic, there are 3 guns you can select, the default weapon(AK-101, AK-47, M16A2), and then there's the 1st tier unlock, the L85A1. If you have Special Forces installed, you may unlock the 2nd tier weapon, the G36E. You either don't have the SF expansion, didn't unlock the tier 2 weapon for the kit, or you didn't click the arrows twice to switch to the 2nd tier unlock.
