I think that the ram is not designed or rated to run at that speed, which causes the stability error.

but why when you eliminate the need to downclock the ram does it still crash?

because your motherboard is struggling to keep up so it tells the memory to slow down to something it can handle 333, memory attempts to do this but becomes unstable

Just buy some 333Mhz RAM, if it even still exists. Otherwise you're SOL.
