Stop adopting your parents' views on politics then. Unless they continue to support you throughout your adult life, (and hey, they might,) you're in a completely different socio-economic situation to them and you'll find that their politics won't necessarily suit you. Don't just blindly follow one side because "you always have, and my parents did before me" and quote dinner table political discusions between mum and dad to make yourself look politically informed. I'm not saying you should immediately start leaning one way or the other I'm just saying you should make up your own damn mind instead of blindly following. Too many people do that already.War Man wrote:

Well I'll leave that up to you 'cause only you can know that. If you really truly think that your parents' political beliefs are right for you personally and you're not just following because it saves you from actually having to think then more power to you. It makes you no different from the vast majority of people who always vote a cartain way for no other reason than "I always have" and believe everything they're spoon-fed by their side of the story because it doesn't chellenge their pre-concieved opinions.

Why'd you edit the last part saying "no one agrees with their parents 100%", 'course I don't always agree 100%. Also, has it occurred to you that I think the same way about you?Ty wrote:

Not really, considering my political opinions don't mirror my parents'. In my household in the last NZ election my mum voted far left, my sister voted left and my dad voted far right. I voted centre right myself because the left Government of the time, which I had voted for last time, had started getting complacent, lazy and started being too overbearing. A political discusion with my folks is never a bitch-session about whatever policy we all disagree with it's generally a no-hold-barred bitch session at why the other person's opinions are wrong. Suffice to say we don't talk politics much any more.
But you weren't to know that. If you were wondering how I came to my conclusion about you it's because everything I read from you on politics does seem like it's regurgitated from someone else. You have strong opinions that don't stem from any source, you don't even back them up yourself, you just state them. Given your reletively young age and the fact that your political opinions don't necessarily relect this (youth in general lean left and when they don't they are marginal, not to mention the fact that when choosing out of the last three administrations you'd staunchly pick the one that made the worst advances with youth,) I simply drew the conclusion that your family is politically one-sided, (which isn't a bad thing, use my previous example of my family to prove this,) right-wing type family, (again, nothing wrong with this,) and this is where you get your political insights. It's not a criticism so much as a character judgement. I feel if you're going to your voice political opinions you should at least believe in them. This brings me back to the posts I read from you on your political opinions: They don't seem like yours.
If you want to continue this discussion I suggest we move it to PMs as I've succeeded in completely clusterfucking this thread.
