I'm able to grapple and climb it "like a Ford" but for whatever reason I can't glide building to building. Is that a different gun?

Yeah the grappling hook gets you up the side of buildings and structures without the use of a ladder. The Zipline is what you are looking for. Uses a crossbow and shoots a line that will enable you to rope slide from a high position to almost any lower position. (within range)
