Aight, so really into the game now...going deeper and deeper and deeper as we speak...did something like 15 hours of exploring...those cave....HUGE! Got my hand on some diamond so tools are now awesome!
Going to sleep now...i wonder how deep i can dig...is there an end to how deep we can go?

So if you dig straight down (dangerous; lava) or build a stair case, you should reach the impenetrable Bedrock (a.k.a. Admin) layer in a short time. That is, without collecting ores on the way down, and also not including lava, water and gravel mishaps.
(Note that these layers a cumulative, i.e. you can find everything from the layer above in the next one beneath too.)

I made a thing.
These screenshots came out a lot darker than it looked but whatever.
It has a moat surrounding it that drowns any mob that steps into it and collects all the items in a 2x2 pit in the middle underneath.
Here is one side of the moat:
My underground storage and crafting area (you can see the moat through the windows):
And the pit everything falls into:
Really the only problem with it is that mobs dont fall in there that often because it is built in a lake and I am usually too high up for them to aggro and try to get to me. Spiders also just kind of crawl over.

Thanks to my crippling minecraft symmetry OCD if you followed one of those gold blocks vertically straight down you would end up in the item pit.
The basement is most certainly not symmetrical.

Yeh it isnt. It bothers me everytime I go downstairs.
I'm such an OCD-er when it comes to minecraft and symmetry. If a building is has something that hasn't been done right and I just winged it out of haste it will annoy the shit out of me. Everything needs to follow and architectural pattern.

All you can do now is gather all the resources to craft anything in the game and play around with it.
The problem is, with the low frequency of content updates, it takes only a rather short time until you reach the point where you have seen and played around with everything (even more so, if you are already experienced).
It's the addictivity that at some point more or less gets you hooked on building something, constantly improving your creations and gathering more and more resources like a maniac.
It's basically like building with Lego bricks or with some other construction toy. Without the need to search for your bricks all around the house for hours, that is.
The devs definitely need to increase the frequency and the content of the updates, so that a casual player always has something new to find and experiment with.
