Of course they did. Who wouldn't vote to dump their problems on someone else if given the opportunity? People are idiots.

The government after politicians promised them the moon. Every election cycle some group of idiots is begging politicians to do stuff for them they refuse to do themselves. Every presidential cycle we get to watch midwestern idiots in former factory towns cry and beg politicians to bring them a new factory. Of course, they could do what their ancestors did... and fucking move to where there is work...

What is Social Security? What is Medicare? How does it improve the lives of those that pay into it? It doesn't. It just gives them the opportunity to think they don't have to worry about their retirement. Never mind that if they did plan it out themselves they'd be a million times better off. Stupid shortsightedness and ignorance.

It's not something I would ever plan on seeing anyway. I've already got my savings plan mapped out for the next 35 years. All goes well I should have about $18M banked when I retire.

Capitalism isn't the problem.  High taxes, burdensome regulations (i.e. Obamacare, Cap-n-tax, Financial Reform Bill, etc...), and uncertainty in our future is the problem.

Sounds like has more to do with Socialism than Capitalism.  Or if you want you can voluntarily pay 70% of your income to them and let a bureaucrat decide how it should be spent instead of you and your family.

Anyone my age or younger that expects to see a dime from SS or Medicare/Medicaid is delusional.
Any of the baby boomers that expect the younger generation's best and brightest to stick around to pay for the Baby Boomer retirement, are delusional.

The Boomers have squandered the credibility, good will, and inheritance given them by their parent (the WW-II generation), spent their own inheritance, and then sold off their children's inheritance (our infrastructure and wealth).  Now they're looking for more ways to rig the system in their favor? They have lived better than any people in history, before or probably for a long time after them, by spending three generations worth of wealth and selling off a country's infrastructure.

Fuck 'em.  They can go work at Wal Mart, eat dog food, and pay for their own Viagra prescription out of their own pocket.
I'm going to be working until I die, they can too.
(Difference is, I actually enjoy my work and will continue to do so until I die.)

It's a historical truth; Run a country into the ground, the best and brightest will leave for better lands.
Especially if the best and brightest are expected to work as indentured servants for the benefit of the laziest and most spoiled generation in the history of humanity.

They did it to themselves by demanding wages well beyond what they deserved and thus making their parent company uncompetitive on the world stage.

Remember our little talk about what Protectionism does to your work force?  Since Unions decided not to reskill themselves (increase their skills by X+1), they are competing with the Chinese at the same X level.  Thus when it comes to equal skills the Chinese win because they will work for a fraction with the same skills.

So what we need to do is skill up our workforce and become even more efficient so it'll take 2 or 3 Chinese workers for each one of ours.  That's how we'll keep our higher standard of living, not by demanding higher wages for the same skilled work - companies might as well go over seas :-P

How on earth are you going to double or triple the 'skill' of your workforce exactly?

You're locked into an iron law of wages battle, with cost of living set at the Chinese level.

About 10 years ago I lost one of my jobs to three Chinese programmers.  Yes that's right, 3 Chinese programmers were hired by my company to replace my job.

Now the standard of living for Chinese are increasing and my skills are far superior now.  Me and my companies are skills up and out performed them.  If I can do it then `factory workers` can too by learning new skills that have them working closely with advanced machinery and robots.

Look, when the Model-T was being built by Ford on the assembly line there were the Horse and Buggie people who were still trying to find work.  We're smart, we have imagination, and we have the ingenuity to get it done!

Well, it becomes a question of simple multiplication. If I can pay a worker in China $3.00 an hour to produce a childs toy, and I am forced to pay an American worker $30.00 an hour for the same task... Y / X better be greater than 10. Since we know the American worker probably actually produces less than the Chinese worker, rather than being 10x as productive, it's not exactly in my best interest to pay him his exorbitant wages. If he were skilled, rather than unskilled labor, the equation would be much different. I'm just not quite sure why I should feel sorry for high school dropouts, being paid to push a button all day (a la George Jetson), losing their extortionist waged jobs.

Keep a close eye on your 401k, its not what it used to be. Anyone who needs SS is lost anyway, Its been little more than a supplement since the 60s. But don't worry, They will run your health care with all the attention and expertise it requires.

Ps I see no ones whines about your writing style.

Really, I think I heard this before. We will see. My bet is that ten years from now we will still be the country every one is trying to get into.
