If you read the Bible, it's very logical. The Earth is 6000 to 10,000 years old, not 5000.

On a side note, dinosaurs might have still existed in somewhat large numbers up until about 100-300 years ago. Those surviving being quite small, and in areas with few humans, such as dense jungles. It's a theory but I see it being quite plausible.

This is true. I can't tell you how many believers I've had to correct over the years. The most common mistake is believing that Catholics are somehow a religion apart. If you ain't Catholic and you ain't Orthodox, you're Protestant. You all worship the same god and read out of the same book. This is most common among people who define themselves as Christian without a denomination attached. Southern style.
You can actually go so far as to say all religions believe in the exact same God ... only difference is the interpretations by the different prophets.

Most modern religion originate from the same pieces of clay with inscriptions found in former Mesopotamia way before Jesus, Moses, Mohammed etc etc ...

So all you fuckers pray to a God invented by the forfathers of Saddam Hussein

I was listening to ..well, how can I put it. A Hindu priest talking about religion and god awhile ago. He was talking about the universe, spacetime and science and all that shit and how it has always fitted within the framework of the religion. I was like shit, this is some interesting stuff. The mere concept of God in the Eastern religions are totally different to Western religions like Islam, Christianity and Judaism. Not that I didn't know this, but it was interesting to hear it from the priest himself with the extra knowledge he knew, he must have been some sort of astrophysics graduate.

I'll also point out that Hinduism has been severely polluted by the West. Unlike Buddhism for example. Alot of India was under the control of Muslims and then Victorians for a decent amount of time. So there's alot of really stupid shit that infiltrated into the system. Still, I guess that's better than actually converting to Islam or Christianity like they wanted so badly. There's not many places in the world that didn't succumb to either of those two religions after being prolonged to direct contact with them for extended periods of time.

4.55 billion years old, give or take a bit.

The oldest rocks on earth are like 3.8 billion years old, which debunks any moronic creationism theories. Though I think shifty was trolling... perhaps

Well, Buddhism is ironically kind of the opposite.  There aren't really any adamant missionaries of Buddhism as far as I know (although Hare Krishnas were kind of like that), but a lot of hippies and New Agers in the West have either converted to Buddhism or follow some variant of it.

Unfortunately, most of these "Buddhists" are just fruity, flighty types trying to sound enlightened.

Opposite of West converting Easterners...

Buddhism seems to be converting some Westerners although not by force.

Hindus aren't exactly tolerant.  There's a lot of tension between them and Muslims and Christians in India.

Some of it is the fault of Muslims and Christians, but some of it is the fault of Hindus.

Yeah you still get people converting to religions like Hinduism and Buddhism, but to say it's anywhere near, historically or presently in the same way as it is for Christianity and Islam, even by saying it's just the same but the opposite, is abit much really.

I never cared about what a person believes in. What I do care about is the person’s behavior towards his/her surroundings. I would say that whatever a person really believes in, will be reflected on his/her behavior, no matter what he/she claims.
Simply, ask yourself. When was that last time you helped someone?

I can't. People who do good deeds to go to Heaven or avoid Hell don't deserve the same respect as someone who does good things just to help out others.

I believe that is what they are trying to teach, I never had the " Hell " part taught to me. I was raised a Lutheran tho. They was all hypocrites anyway. My mom brought a black family to church with us and they went wild. I was like " thank God - I knew they were fakes. I am outa here " and I never went back. I was only 9 but I stood my ground. I never went back. I hated it anyway. Sorry if I offended anyone.

I see where you're coming from.  The reasoning behind an action does matter, but the action itself also matters.

In a practical sense, if religion keeps someone from doing bad things, then I guess I'm ok with them being religious.  On the other hand, if religion causes them to act like a hateful bigot or extremist, then yeah...  I'm not ok with that.

For me, respect doesn't really come into the equation as much as trust.  I have plenty of close friends that are religious, and perhaps, their religions keep them from doing bad things.  Because of the actions I've seen them make, I trust them, and so our differences in beliefs really don't matter to me most of the time.

Pragmatically, I guess the reasoning matters a lot less to me than the actions themselves.

Don't tell me that, tell them. Surely you know some insincere Christians? I often find them to be a bit louder than usual.
