Okay so I have this issue, mainly on my iPod, where my music doesn't play at the same volume. One song may be quiet at a certain volume setting, and another song on that same volume setting will burst my eardrums. For instance, I have to turn the volume up pretty high to listen to Megadeth's Rust in Peace but at that same volume, Metallica's Master of Puppets will be painful.

Is there any way to make it so that the music comes out the same volume? I'm on a Mac, in case anyone's gonna suggest software.

isn't there some sort of volume leveling thingy in iTunes?

also, you could try editing all your songs in something like Audacity... Or, if you want, see if there is some sort of hardware/software system compressor you could use....

Well, there's this function called Sound Check but supposedly it assrapes the quality of the songs. It does have its own volume level independent of the system volume, and I think it does keep everything level... since I don't find myself having to change the computer volume depending on what song I'm listening to... but that doesn't exist on the iPod. The iPod only has a universal volume.

So you need to physically re-encode/normalize the volume levels on each mp3 that you own?

I did a quick search, and a program called MP3Rage does something of that nature.
I need around tree fiddy.

Right? And heck even on iTunes it's not a big deal, it's on the iPod where I have problems. I'd try Sound Check just to see if it helps (supposedly it's not permanent) but it takes a long-ass time for it to comb through your library.
