I saw the Daniel Pearl one when I was around 10-11. I always had an interest in war related topics and I remember hearing about it on CNN when I was in Disney World with my family. When we got back I looked it up (and being naive, not expecting it to be anywhere near as gory as it was) online and was utterly shocked. I remember asking my mom if he was dead when they cut his head off, to which she obviously responded no.

I also saw the Nick Berg video, the Korean guy, Eugene Armstrong's and one other which I can't remember. I really, really don't know why. I was a morbid little kid, I guess. Now I'd NEVER watch them.

They were beheading someone every month while I was in Iraq. They also captured a bunch of contractors and hung them from a bridge over the Euphrates. Guess I never had any interest in watching the videos because it was too close to home.

ffs, guys, this thread is so fucked up it's not even funny.

chechens have been sitting in their fucking caucasus mountains for longer than your "great nation of usa" have been "the most perfect union". and all that time they've been fighting their neighbours, which, among others, included russians. the grudge they bear towards anything russian is pretty much alike that between modern israelis and palestinians and just about as old. there's no way of untieing that bloody knot, so soviets, being practical people as they were, did the only logical thing - the same thing the free and the brave at their time did to native americans.

unfortunately, chechens - with foreign support, no doubt - have been allowed to re-assemble, arm and establish new ties to islamist movements, mainly of wahhabbist nature. what the result was - is what you've been googling up here.

i answer the way i see fit. you don't like it? - well, sorry, but, frankly, i don't give a fuck. i'm tired of people condoning things like iraq war and guatemala syphilis study and then calling my grand-parents "rapists" and "murderes" and comparing them to nazies. usa soldiers murder, rape, and pillage just the same, only with fancier toys. war is like that and i'm surprised i have to tell that to you, who, supposedly, seen much more of it than i ever will. you went all the way to the other side of the globe to fight taliban for sheltering terrorists and that's okay by you, but, you know what? - we've got those same bloody terrorists operating right here on our territory in the place called "chechnia". they've been there since before your "great nation" existed and they were killing, raping and kidnapping their neighbours. only soviets were finally able to subdue the fucking beasts. but then here come people, whos own nation has yet to do anything of the sort using their so called "civilized methods" and start discussing it like they know better. hello? are you feeling okay?

Ignorant statements to the very end... This was in 2004.

I'm pretty sure the guys that were hanged when I was there were from KBR, not Blackwater. KBR did all the backbone stuff that the military should've been doing itself for a fraction of the cost. Things like building barracks, disposing of sewage, providing guards for Kuwaiti staging bases, cooking food for the DFAC's etc. They privatized military jobs and charged quadruple for doing the same task.

I know, I know, but JohnG@lt aren't you the free market guy? Why are you against privatization? In this case I'm against it because the military is one of the two jobs I feel the government should be entirely responsible for. KBR banked billions (KBR is a subsidiary of Halliburton btw) with a no-bid contract. When that kind of money is at stake, the odds of wars being started for private profit skyrocket. I am a free trader but my personal limit is trusting the MIC. At all. Period.

Ok, thanks for the correction. The rest of it still stands though. The money the KBR dudes were making while sitting on their asses was obscene. Same goes for the Blackwater guys that took their military training, training the Army spent millions on, and said "thanks for the training, peace, I'm gonna go charge you quadruple for my services now".

Contractors are largely ex military, how exactly are pmc's consisting of ex soldiers undisiplined or unprofessional? Blackwater gives the industry a bad name is all.
