So it's finally coming around to the time of year where I'm receiving cash from relatives and such.

and I'm considering finally upgrading my PoS rig (don't laugh at the specs, guys)

3.0 GHz Pentium 4
2.5 GB RAM, DDR2.
stock Dell D8400 mobo
Radeon X300 graphics card (lul)

Don't think my mobo has the buses to support faster ram/processors, and my PSU is probs shit too.

Time for new rig, how much is your budget and what are you going to do with the pc?

I think you'll find that everyone will tell you to buy a new pc. Keep that one though, use it as a server for the lulz
for a fatty you're a serious intellectual lightweight.

I might try that OC for the lulz, and get back to you with pics

I'm considering this case, looks decent

I have a couple SATA drives lyin around, so HDDs are $0.

I'd say my budget is about $250 USD, for case, mobo, PSU, DDR3 RAM, graphics card, CPU, everything else I already have.

so would I have money to get a SSD?

How good do you want this pc to be?

No, you can barely manage a light gaming pc with used components and without a case for that money. What are you going to do with the PC? I hope not much gaming.

K well, let's deal in terms of individual budgets then, what I'm currently considering is after the budget, the price for that is after the URL.

Case ($30) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a … 6811147023 ($30)
PSU minimum required that won't fry my crap
Graphics ($150) ?
CPU ($100) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a … 6819103699 ($68)
RAM ($60) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a … 6820231316 ($59)
Mobo ($70) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a … 6813135250 ($50)

ik that's a shit-ton more than what I first stated, but yeah I think I can get a decent comp for under $300 apart from the graphics card.

Will the shit I listed fit together, at least?

Greh, with my graphics card budget, my choices are rather limited:

considering:

4770
4850

re-use old case etc and buy an i5+mobo in a cheap bundle and a gtx 460, then upgrade part by part?
I'd type my pc specs out all fancy again but teh mods would remove it. Again.

That would be a pointless upgrade. All it will do is make a decent paperweight.

Dude, he has an X300. X600=2x X300.

But really, just dump the lot and start again.

Actually, I do believe the X600 is slower than the X300.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

well I have a Radeon 9800 pro lying around that I use as a paperweight, so no thanks.

Upgrading is out of the question now, this is now (build a new rig)

You need at least 600 for a decent computer, period.

Heck... you need 300 for an office PC....
everything i write is a ramble and should not be taken seriously.... seriously.
