Actually I don't recall seeing that many alien films recently. We've had District 9 which came out awhile ago. Then there was War of the Worlds but that was like an adaptation of a classic novel anyway. The last film I remember like this (all out action, proper alien invasion of earth) is Independence Day.
I think it's because there's been so many video games about alien invasions recently, everyone is getting confused now between games and films. When you think about it (or when I do) I can't recall that many alien films
Looks like something worth watching in the cinema, though. Hopefully there's more to it than bunch of loudmouth soldiers shooting crazy illogically aggressive aliens with whom apart from having advanced technology and combat tactics appear to show little intelligence whatsoever, sometimes you wish for more developed alien characters, that's what District 9 did but they also made them a bunch of pussies more or less
