Define same level

They are completely different skill sets. Starcraft is not on the same level as hockey in terms of ice skating ability
i guarantee you it also takes 10x more mind power to have hockey sense than "starcraft sense"
not to mention physical athletic ability. To even consider Starcraft a sport is offensive to real athletes.

define "mind power"

is it measured in inches or pounds?
synapses 10 to the millionth power

when I played hockey, there was CONSISTENT thought going through my head. where the puck's going to be, what you need to do if you get the puck, line changes, staying within the rules as to not bring in a penalty, keeping mind of your own body and when to head to the bench as to not fatigue yourself, etc

So you are saying brain activity is higher when playing hockey than playing starcraft.

I didn't know you were a neurosurgeon

There is consistent thought going through your head when playing starcraft at very high levels, do you think they take naps halfway through their games? You need to make sure your supply is positive while spending two different resources, always looking at the minimap, understanding what your opponent is capable of having at any particular time, knowing when you should be offensive or defensive. I could list thousands.

And the game is so fragile that if you arent 100% on these things and you miss micro, or forget supply, or lose awareness, you will lose the game. Just like in any other sport

I've always categorized sport as something that needs physical strength, while games are more "mental".

ie, chess, starcraft and poker are games, while hockey, football and running are sports.

that's precisely my view

according to max clicking your mouse rapidly is the "physical strength" required to classify starcraft as a sport though

nice contribution

starcraft is mostly mind power. hockey and other real physical sports are both a combination of physical and mental power. there's so much more thought that has to go into a game like baseball, basketball, hockey or football when you're not sitting on your ass in a dark room

Would you consider chess a sport though? Or at least a competition worthy of being held in the same regard as, say, hockey?

the international olympic committee recognizes chess as a sport.
