Last 2 years. Many, many people change their major at least once throughout their college life here. The first two years you're really only supposed to focus on pre-reqs, the last 2 you focus on your major or do one/two pre-req courses you still need.Uzique wrote:

Undeclared LOLOL. Philosophy class satisfies one of my core requirements, as does criminal justice. Math is for, well, math and public health is an elective along with urban studies.DesertFox- wrote:

Probably gonna major in Information Systems or Supply Chain Management. Next semester is Macroeconomics, Accounting I, Calculus, Communications and Criminology (I might do criminal justice as a backup major )

took 4 years of spanish from 7-10th and forgot most of it. i don't know why they're making me take it though, I "mastered" the state test..
over here, normally (within reason), if you're granted place to an institution... you can switch course in the first year.

In fact, I started to specialise in year 8. And by year 11 the only subject I had to do was English. When Uni rolled by, it was core course related subjects only.
My major is rather focused on fulfilling most requirements you need for professional medical/dental/optometry schools with room for electives if you need more. The only stupid "well-rounded" stuff that is required is a BS organizational leadership class (which is what all the athletes major in cause it's easy as shit). I'll have earned a B.S. in Health Science with minors in Biology and Psychology, though. I've taken a shit-ton of bio classes, too, but they are mostly general introductions into genetics, microbiology, biochemistry and such like, because one would specialize in something like that in postgraduate work I imagine.
General Ed. classes were horrible. I either took an easy class that I had no interest in, or I took a class that I thought might be interesting but then had the subject ruined by a horrible professor.
There was one exception, though, and that was a History of Electronic Music course I was happy to see that the teacher was as equally passionate about the subject as I and most of the rest of the class was. Funny side note: on the first day of class it was a full classroom of ~70 people. Right off the bat the teacher told us that the course was not going to be all about trance and rave music. That cleaned things up pretty well. And then when we got to Musique Concrete, that took care of the rest. (And I still retain my hipster cool points because I knew about and listened to electronic music long before this course and knew a bit about the history of the music beforehand; my knowledge did not come from this one course alone )

There was a class here about modern Iraq/Afghanistan/Iran I was dying to take... but it would've put me at 19 credits and I'd have to pay extra.

i took a course similar to that this last term called 'the art of noise', which was taught by one of the best music-academics/reviewers in the UK. writes for the wire magazine, makes his own electronic music, and also pioneers a research group into post-modern poetry and sound-art. he was one cool motherfucker the sort of professor that can credibly wear thick-rimmed glasses and black polo-necks and still be taken seriously.
