No. I don´t know about American Protests, but in Germany they didn´t fuck things up, but pushed the people in power to review desisions. They are powerfull as in showing that a won election isn´t a free pass to do whatever you want jsut because you got the majority of seats.
It stopped a stupid school reform in Hamburg, it pushed the parties to inquire further into the required conditions to store nuclear waste before settling a disposal zone, it put a building project worth billions of euros (which got way over budget and whose necessity and improvements arn´t fully proven) into the public eye.
In Austria it pushed the leading parties to rethink and recheck the financing of the education system.

Of course, if you just use it as an excuse to rampage and pillage through town, than its bullshit.

@Marine I mean yeah, everybody knows that they're bad for you. But that even social smoking is incredibly bad (as opposed to just, say "pretty bad"), or that a single cigarette can trigger a heart attack in someone who's at a high risk for them, that's a new finding. Hence why I'm surprised by it.
