The UK got infected with the lawyer problem relatively recently, plus Nigerian, Eastern European and Liverpudlian crims have figured out that other people's insurance is a pot of gold they can dip into.

South Carolina used to not require insurance, but now they do.  To my knowledge, every state requires it now.
Except New Hampshire.

I wasn't gonna say this but

THERE YOU GO AGAIN

Talk about fixation. Just do what ever has been bothering you and get it over with. No one need ever know, than maybe you can stop all these awkward segways into that area to which you are constantly steering the conversation.

Right so here in the US people are required to have auto insurance (lots of people don't).  Some states have "no fault insurance" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/No-fault_insurance

WTF is this concept?  No fault?  You hit me motherfucker it is your fault.  What kind of lesson does this teach people?
Only skimming over the thread.

This is little different than insurance-insurance. You don't buy no-fault auto insurance to 'learn a lesson.' You buy it so in case you're the one who screws up on the road, your insurance still covers it. Since you've been giving them money on whatever periodical basis for this, I don't see any problem with it. Doesn't mean I support states that want to enforce this policy as the exclusive option.
