Xbox 360 wifi issues

So at my mom's house, my 360 has terrible connectivity issues with the wifi network. My laptop gets the signal just fine in the same room, but for some reason half the time the 360 can't connect. It always says that it has trouble getting an IP address from the router. Yet every other device in the house never has an issue with it.

Should I try setting an IP address manually? Or is it an issue of simply not getting a signal?

If it's the old G one, dump it. It sucks seriously. Build your own AP with N.

Cabling is better though. Get one of those flat cables. Not Gig-speed, but good enough coming from the modem. Just feed it into your gig switch.

My rents said pretty much the same thing but I explained to them how much better and more pr0 it would make me at FPS and ran it anyway, lulz. They got used to it after a week or so.
