Got my nephews a PS3 for Christmas and it won't read PS3 games. I've updated the firm/software. It'll recognize and play movies BluRay but will not see the two games it came with. Any ideas?
Poor kids are freaking. Any help will be appreciated(+1).

PS3's. They just work.

This is a simple question, but are you sure you're putting them in the right way? And are you going to the "game" part of the XMB and choosing the game?

A quick google search says it's probably defective. But you might want to try other games before you send in the PS3 to Sony on warranty. The disc that came with the PS3 could be fucked.

Are you sure they are PS3 games and not PS2 games? The PS3 is not backwards compatible

That may sound like a smartass reply, but I'm just checking.

Black Ops and the other came in the box. Google says BluRay is broken but  the BluRay movie the came with it reads. Yes it is put in right. The games just don't read.

Question? Do BluRay movies play on a regular DVD player at DVD quality. That might explain the movie reading/working.

Also you can play some PS1 games on a PS3.

Uh I'm pretty sure they released a download to make the new PS3 backwards compatible.

PS3 can play PS1 games, yes. But not PS2 games. And it's not a download.

And Blurays will not play in a regular DVD player.

I have two PS3's. One of the original ones and a new one. I know for a fact that older one can play PS2 and PS1 games out of the box.

E: Well not original the 80 GB version which is a generation after the original PS3's.

But the OP got a new PS3, which is not backwards compatible with PS2 games, which was my original point.

Marley, try to exchange it for a different one. Bad luck, mate

For srs?

I haven't tried it myself, but I'd be very surprised if they did work in a regular dvd player. I thought that's why they usually included an extra copy on a DVD with blurays?

Chances are that if it's that new, you can just exchange it for another one at the store you bought it at.

Yeah, messed around with it enough. Swap it out tomorrow. But you know they won't have the same bundle I bought. Little brats will have to wait..

Sometimes they'll disregard the bundle and just swap the unit, especially around the holidays.

Might sound like an obvious point, but check the discs aren't damaged or dirty

Yahoo Question:

My ps3 won't play games, but plays movies, why?

Yahoo answer:

This happened to me last month this is what i did
i called sony and got through to them after waiting one hour and transferred me to a technical advisor
and what he told me to do is
Back up all my saved data. pics, music, videos, ect
then on my settings go on restore ps3 default system which takes about 6 hours depening on how much stuff you have on it
and it worked

Tried that?

Or you might just have one of the 2% of playstations that have a broken bluray laz0r.

Wow. 2% is a high amount considering the amount of PS3s out there.

That's terrible.
