So basically here I am with Windows 7 64-bit, but I feel there's not much I'm getting out of it. I think aside from the OS and the basic shit that comes with it (including IE8) I don't have much in the way of 64-bit programs.

Even the shit I thought would surely support 64-bit (Firefox, Steam, loads of games) doesn't seem to support it.

Then there's Crysis which I bought for like 2 quid off Steam, and for some reason EA have an agreement with Valve to not include the 64-bit bin/executable and all that which they do with the regular retail version (I'm glad I only buy games off Steam when they're dirt cheap during sales...fuck digital distribution/Valve really, it's just as shady as piracy)

tl;dr - Support for 64-bit sucks

32bit runs flawlessly on a 64bit OS. If your program can't use more than 4GB ram, going 64bit is rather pointless anyhow.
once upon a midnight dreary, while i pron surfed, weak and weary, over many a strange and spurious site of ' hot  xxx galore'. While i clicked my fav'rite bookmark, suddenly there came a warning, and my heart was filled with mourning, mourning for my dear amour, " 'Tis not possible!", i muttered, " give me back my free hardcore!"..... quoth the server, 404.

At the end of the day, 64-bit makes a real difference for CPU intensive programs, and games right now don't really push that to the limit (except for Crysis, and that naturally has 64-bit support).

But for stuff that does matter and make a difference (e.g. - Adobe products, WinRAR, Defrag software, Media player software) there is plenty of 64-bit support and always increasing. You might not use those programs, but they are there.

Of course they only tell you this after you download the 100MB 32-bit install and it tells you you need the 64-bit.

Oh and it still installs to Program Files (x86) so that just proves its a total waste of fucking time.

New update! 10.1.1.1.1.1.1.1.1.2. 100 fucking meg. Lawl at people with 500MB/1GB download caps.

I know that 32-bit programs run on 64-bit fine, how the fuck am I already posting and doing everything fine.

All I was saying was I thought there would be more 64-bit versions out there for all the big things.

Honestly , I don't think it means or should mean much to regular users (like the bastardization of 'the cloud'). We are still in the saturation phase, once there is no 32bit then there might be broader support for 64bit. Hopefully 32bit OS's won''t be another IE6.

That wasn't his point. His point was that it runs 32-bit over 64-bit, because the 64-bit version is only included in the retail game.

don't get why there's always some new 100mb download and all it adds in is some extra support for the iphone or something equally useless.
I'd type my pc specs out all fancy again but teh mods would remove it. Again.

Shit, 1GB caps?  On a lifeline plan or something?  My Android alone goes through 1GB of email in one week.

Yes, people here still have 500MB/1GB caps on their fixed Internet (admittedly they have like 2GB "off-peak"). 3G broadband is at most here 10GB a month (Internode recently pushed that to 18GB for $80).

It's called other countries but Apple are a bunch of fucknuts.

I would only get 64bit OS if I wanted to utilize more RAM but like Max said only if the software supports it.

I read about that, it's because it's needs like x64 drivers for the iPods or something like that and that x64 package installs them.  From what people were saying, only the installer itself and the drivers are actually x64 bit, iTunes and Quicktime still both run in x86, I checked it on my mom's computer which has 7 Home x64.

I think I might just use my x64 disc next time I reinstall 7 Ultimate.  The only game I have that I would still be interested in playing that I know for sure is 16-bit is that Pharoah or Egypt or whatever game and I couldn't get that to install anyway back when I had XP Pro x86, although 7 has done some pretty magical stuff for me that XP has never done as well so maybe I'll try it again sometime.  And I say this because I remember hearing someone say that x64 OSes can't use anything at all that uses 16-bit but now that I think about it, that sounds like bullshit.
