There is no effect on the group as a whole, it's discipline or how it functions. Your infantry unit will still be your regular infantry unit with the only difference being that people can now say they're gay without getting fired.
Well, that and now Sgt. Davis has Pvt. Parts as his boy toy during field missions.  I'm a guy, I have been horny, I just wasn't gay.  You know what, when I was in the field and a woman was around we were all hitting on it because we were horny.  If you replaced half the guys in my company with women we would have all got hooked up during field missions.  Not a good thing, and the mission takes a back seat when your girlfriend is being shot at.  So.......  where is my thinking wrong on this?
I was in a mixed unit and no one ever hooked up on FTXs. It would've been an instant field grade. So yeah, keep talking out of your ass.

FTX = field training exercise
field grade = field grade article 15, non-judicial punishment one step below a courts martial. maximum punishment is loss of four pay grades, forfeiture of one months pay, 45 days of extra duty and restriction to post.

Yeah, a lifer like you would have.  Private fuck was getting it all the time.  You can't even face reality, there was a chick raped at Ft. Irwin during desert warfare training, at least 10% of the people I served with were in the military out of jail for reduced sentencing and couldn't give a shit.  Half of them were ghetto trash.  This is why shit like that muslim girl being raped and killed with her family happened.  This is why marriages don't last in the military because everyone is doing everyone else's wife while her husband is deployed.

You're a fucking joke, you were never in the Military.  Stupid game forum warriors, don't even know why I argue.  go read some more blogs so you pass yourself of fag.

I agree with this and over here it's generally shunned to have a relationship in your own unit. People within the military do have relationships but to my knowledge keeping them actually physically working togheter is a-okay.

It doesn't happen alot for people to have relationships within the military but throughout Afghanistan nobody perceived it as being/forming a problem.

I know one who was in Europe during the war and in the Philippines after the war. He told me a story about how he killed a teenager at night and another one about two guys who fell off a cliff.

My grandfather was in Korea, he doesn't talk about it though. It probably depends on the person.
It does depend on the person. I asked my father how he earned his bronze star one time and he wouldn't tell me. A few weeks later he called me on the phone drunk and blubbering to tell me that he earned it for saving his platoon from an ambush and that it required him to kill two kids with AKs. That's stuff you never forget and it's not something most people care to share with civilians. I never talk about my time in the military except with other vets simply because they have no way of understanding anything. You just get blank stares and/or silly questions.
And as I noted, times have changed.  WWII was a much different war.  My Uncle was defending his homeland.  Memorials erected.  The vets are proud of what they did.  And they were going up against battle hardened Japanese soldiers with take no prisoner mentalities, so yeah, no real regrets for what they had to do to defend Bataan as best they could.

Vietnam and future wars, and Korea to an extent, are far different wars than WWII.  True, near the fall of Germany, the old and the young were brought into the conflict, but it was not a significant part of the war.

Half. My dad's father emigrated in 1933, my grandmother in 1946.

My mom's father emigrated from Sweden in 1930. Both grandfathers served in WWII for America, maternal came up through Italy with the 69th Infantry Division and my paternal served on Patton's staff as an interpreter and then was promoted to Major for the Nuremberg War Crimes Trials because the German officers wouldn't speak to an enlisted man.

He wasn't Jewish, he just despised Hitler. Old school Prussian type. So he boarded a ship heading for New York as a deckhand and jumped ship when it arrived.

The only story I ever got out of my grandfather about WWII was the time he had diarrhea in Italy. He was jumping from foxhole to foxhole treating the wounded (he was a medic) with shit dripping down his legs. Funny story, but not the most hygienic.

The flip side is that my grandmother was raised in Germany, stayed through the war, and because of her blond hair and blue eyes was placed in the Hitler Youth. She took shrapnel in the Dresden bombings and then was raped by Russian soldiers when they invaded and sent off to a gulag in Siberia. She had a shitty life.

That's not the point.  What I meant is that Hitler would have had a significantly smaller military force if those who hated him or didn't care for the way he shaped Germany had left the country.  But no need to discuss further, as it's a moot point.

Would've been better off if they hadn't elected him in the first place too but you can blame France and England and reparations for that.

Besides, people back then were the same as people are now, they didn't inform themselves beyond newspaper headlines and speeches that sounded pretty. So the changes took everyone "by surprise" more or less.

it's the "too much to lose" and "dont really care" attitude that is still prevalent largely today.

WWI wasn't just Germany.  There were a lot of empires that were fighting for nothing more than expansionism.  The war started and escalated over nothing and drew in nations for no other reason than wanting their piece of the pie.

But yeah, it is stupid to have let Germany rebuild a military but all those same countries that fought the war to expand and make money were still more worried about making money than human rights and protecting " lesser " countries from aggression.  The Soviets/Russians were the worst.  To have lost so many people and your country invaded and then team up with Germany for round 2 to do it to somebody else.  /facepalm

And yet, go out on the street here in SoCal and ask someone to name our new Governor, and odds are, the majority would get it wrong.
