I was in a mixed unit and no one ever hooked up on FTXs. It would've been an instant field grade. So yeah, keep talking out of your ass.

Yeah, a lifer like you would have.  Private fuck was getting it all the time.  You can't even face reality, there was a chick raped at Ft. Irwin during desert warfare training, at least 10% of the people I served with were in the military out of jail for reduced sentencing and couldn't give a shit.  Half of them were ghetto trash.  This is why shit like that muslim girl being raped and killed with her family happened.  This is why marriages don't last in the military because everyone is doing everyone else's wife while her husband is deployed.

I know one who was in Europe during the war and in the Philippines after the war. He told me a story about how he killed a teenager at night and another one about two guys who fell off a cliff.

My grandfather was in Korea, he doesn't talk about it though. It probably depends on the person.

It does depend on the person. I asked my father how he earned his bronze star one time and he wouldn't tell me. A few weeks later he called me on the phone drunk and blubbering to tell me that he earned it for saving his platoon from an ambush and that it required him to kill two kids with AKs. That's stuff you never forget and it's not something most people care to share with civilians. I never talk about my time in the military except with other vets simply because they have no way of understanding anything. You just get blank stares and/or silly questions.

And as I noted, times have changed.  WWII was a much different war.  My Uncle was defending his homeland.  Memorials erected.  The vets are proud of what they did.  And they were going up against battle hardened Japanese soldiers with take no prisoner mentalities, so yeah, no real regrets for what they had to do to defend Bataan as best they could.

Vietnam and future wars, and Korea to an extent, are far different wars than WWII.  True, near the fall of Germany, the old and the young were brought into the conflict, but it was not a significant part of the war.

The only story I ever got out of my grandfather about WWII was the time he had diarrhea in Italy. He was jumping from foxhole to foxhole treating the wounded (he was a medic) with shit dripping down his legs. Funny story, but not the most hygienic.

That's not the point.  What I meant is that Hitler would have had a significantly smaller military force if those who hated him or didn't care for the way he shaped Germany had left the country.  But no need to discuss further, as it's a moot point.

Besides, people back then were the same as people are now, they didn't inform themselves beyond newspaper headlines and speeches that sounded pretty. So the changes took everyone "by surprise" more or less.

it's the "too much to lose" and "dont really care" attitude that is still prevalent largely today.

Just look, anything outside of Europe is too far away to even bother making a half-decent statement.
