Also, parents can be as doting, attentive or disciplinary as they want, but it's still not going to halt drug abuse and violence among youth. Sometimes, people have to suck it in and actually blame kids for what they do instead of everyone and everything else.tuckergustav wrote:
Because parents have become more afraid of punishing their own children. So, instead of being afraid of consequences, kids learn very early that they can get away with stuff if they make enough of a scene. Because if a scene is made these days involving a parent and child, other people stick their noses in and throw the abuse card. And it just so happens that a majority of middle-class parents are very concerned with the status quo.Hurricane2k9 wrote:

Also, I can't imagine there could ever be a "standard" of parenting. You can be as smart and rich and "prepared" as ever...but as soon as you take that baby home it is a big ol' whirlwind of mistakes.

I just have to raise my voice ever so slightly, and order returns. One time, my wife was at the door. She could hear the commotions inside. As she was jiggling the door, there was silence. She got inside and asked why it got quiet. The boys said, they thought it was me. It's not fear, it's respect and love. The young one always tries to hide behind the door to surprise me. They both readily come to me if needing comfort or understanding. You just have to know how to raise them properly. And yes, boys will be boys, but my boys know their bounderies.
When I tell them that they only have 1 hour of video gaming left for the night, and they counter with 2 hours, I bring it down to 30 minutes. Yeah, that's how I negotiate.
Frankly, if you have never tried to raise kids then you don't have a say in how others are raised (myself included.)

I don't have kids and don't plan too but that doesn't mean I don't have the ability to tell an incompetent jackass of a parent from a saintly responsible one.
Don't be stupid guys.

i don't have kids, it's why i log in here erryday . . .
Not being stupid, I know I was a little prick when I was 4, always having tantrums in public places. Wasn't my parents fault, they did everything they could to get me to shut the fuck up including a smack upside the head.Macbeth wrote:

A smack in the head never worked for me. But if they took away from you the things that you valued the most at the time, I'm sure that would have convinced you to behave.UnkleRukus wrote:

Yeah there is a lot of subjectivity in life and all but after spending a bit of time observing a parent (longer than 5 minutes while they are out of course) and their style of parenting I can come to the conclusion of whether they are fuck ups or not.Frankly, if you have never tried to raise kids then you don't have a say in how others are raised (myself included.)
Examples please.Macbeth wrote:

I'm not gonna tell someone how to raise their own kids, that's my point, but I'm also saying don't judge a book by it's cover.Macbeth wrote:

http://bjs.ojp.usdoj.gov/content/pub/press/PJI96.PRThe survey also showed that a substantial number of jail inmates were unemployed, grew up in single-parent homes, were children of substance-abusing parents or guardians or were sexually or physically abused themselves.
Somewhat old but I doubt it has changed much.
also
Almost half of all inmates grew up in
single-family homes and about 12 percent had
lived in childhood homes without either
parent. Almost a third said their parents or
guardians had abused alcohol or drugs.
Nearly half said a family member had been in
jail or prison.

I wouldn't base any my judgments on a small amount of events or situations. That's why I said.UnkleRukus wrote:

And I would tell someone if they are being shitty parents and how to improve their parenting. It's just a suggestion. Words you know.after spending a bit of time observing

That means more than half of all in mates grew up in a home with both parents.
2/3 inmates had parents which did not abused alcohol or drugs.
More than half said they did not have a family member in jail or prison.
So if you want to have less chance of going to jail, what do you think is best? Ya git.

I know that, they still make a substantial amount of criminals though. But I suppose as long as they're not the majority it's not an issue.

There are more children being raised in the U.S. with both parents than with a single. There are also more parents in the country who aren't drug abusers than there are drug addled parents. There are also more families with people not in prison then there are families with imprisoned relatives.
Their proportions prove that those things usually have negatives affects.
Mine are 9 and 13, I have no issues with them they are good kids with good grades in school and play sports. I ultimately pick their friends though and they know who and what I won't tolerate them being around.Ilocano wrote:

What I always told them was " You hang around people you want to be like, hang around trash and you will be trash. Hang with successful people and you will be successful. " Who they are around influences them. When I am not that influence, I want to know who is. You are a product of your environment MOSTLY, I have seen kids with good parenting turn out to be utter crap.
Discipline: All kids are different. Some need a wiping where others need a look. My oldest responds well to reason and fears letting me or my wife down and is rarely punished by us because he doesn't do things wrong on purpose when he does. My youngest will test the limits with lying and not obeying. He, like me when I was a kid, will need a spanking from time to time. I have a feeling he has the same problem with authority that I did growing up.
There is no manual for parenting because kids are all too different. As long as a parent cares about their kids and puts them ahead of themselves most kids will turn out good. It is the parents that don't care and let their kids run on the streets all day or leave them at home unsupervised all day that turn out these punks.
