I'd think so, I just went on the logical way around it'd be for this scenario.FatherTed wrote:
gradients expressed as x:y normally means horizontal:vertical i think?
Well, I was looking at these suits online and the most expensive ones had the highest first number. I doubt that the higher the price is the less you can fly.
Like one suit was ~$1000 and had a 2.3:1, and the 3:1 suit was $1500.

Hmmm perhaps they give you a lot more lift than I thought then.
I'm still wondering if you can pull up with them, enough to like "Stall" then go down again. Judging by the design of the wings I doubt it. You would need bigger wings to produce more lift, but then you'd have to reinforce them because nobody is strong enough to hold them in place with their arms extended the way they are.

The only way you could pull up is by using the leg wing as an elevator I guess, but you can't really tilt that very well.
Also, main point, best glide ratio is achieved by pointing down with no propulsion, the more you angle up, the faster you fall. The glide angle they have going on is probably at this best angle of attack or close to.

Does anybody know how much training is required for something like this? I would imagine you would have to do several regular parachute sky dives, then some with the special chutes they have, then a few exercises with no obstacles in wing suits, then some easier terrain to navigate, then you can try these hardcore flights?

That sounds rite tbh/.-Sh1fty- wrote:
To me horizontal to vertical is usually [x,y], but that's just me and my graph math
I could have sworn it was 3 meters across for every meter dropped. Those suits aren't that bad.
Watch it again in fullscreen HD... wow. Now if only it was in 1080p...
There's no set training for it, but they recommend you have 100 jumps under your belt before you use a wingsuit. And you'd most likely start by jumping from a plane, rather than BASE jumping.-Sh1fty- wrote:

Its bad ass, always thought it would be fun to do.
So as I mentioned, they recommend you get used to the suit's maneuverability before you attempt to fly around obstacles giant walls of death.ghettoperson wrote:

Yes. Obviously. The first time you drive a car isn't going to be in an F1 race is it? And skimming walls isn't a required part of it, in the same way that plenty of people sky dive normally without the need to endanger themselves by BASE jumping or making extremely low openings.
In-fucking-comprehensible.

sickness - that part where the guy started rolling around and then flying on his back (homeboy in the yellow suit) was like "WTF?!"
The suits they're wearing could get much better lift. There's so much room for extra wing surface.

Make X-meds a full member, for the sake of 15 year old anal gangbang porn watchers everywhere!
What makes you think they want more lift? I'm sure they want a balance of speed, resistance, and control.-Sh1fty- wrote:

Awsm way to fly, pants shittingly scary as well.
I've seen a vid of what happened when somebody misjudged a bridge. Wasn't pleasant.

One of the guys in that video died last year doing what they're doing in the first bit, jumping with skis on.
Be it basejumping or even "flying" suits...ghettoperson wrote:

You can't expect to live long when doing a couple of those a day...

Your thoughts, insights, and musings on this matter intrigue me
Actually in his case it was the skis that got him, he couldn't get one to disengage and it took him into a spin which he couldn't recover from. Which is ironic, given that he was a pro skier.
