  • Online backups - Are there any, cheaper than Dropbox for >10GB storage

Title pretty much says it all.. I'd like to backup just my photos and pictures.. but they are currently at >8 GB

And my puny 2 GB dropbox isn't really going to help me there

EDIT: Ok finny is too dense so I have to spell this out... Online backup as in, sites with a client that auto-uploads/-syncs to a server...

yeah, as if I'd want to seperately add files...

by Online backups I meant clients who will auto-upload & sync

Yeah that'll help me when the house burns down... Desktop and fileserver together...

And I don't want sharing, just backup... sync between PCs would be a bonus but isn't required

Oh well.... I will just do monthly updates to a HDD and store it in the bank vault or something then

Eventually I should be able to afford an offsite Server/NAS at some datacentre :p

If you want to back up for photos, I believe Picasa is pretty cheap. Also look into Flickr. IIRC, a Flickr Pro account costs $20 USD a year and you can upload as much as you want at whatever file size that you want.

You're better off buying a seperate external HDD. Faster transfer rates, etc

Haven't you read any of the posts in this thread?

Sticking mass media and storage devices inside ones rectal cavity is pretty well accepted, indeed encouraged.

Yeah but flickr works pretty much the same as Photobucket & Imageshack no?

The whole point of this was to avoid the hassle of running to the bank every week/month to do a physical offsite backup

flickr has a batch upload tool that you can download and you can make albums private.

the cost of that, + you sticking it up your ass for emergency house escape will be money well spent.

Buy two.

Do your back up from home.

Place one into the bank.

Month passes. Next backup from home. Return to bank. Swap backups.

You will have a 2 month backup on one drive, a 1 month backup on another and will always have one at the bank and one at home.
