iPad for £199 on 24-month Contract.

Right, time for some man-maths.

I'm currently paying £35 a month on my Blackberry Curve 8520 on Orange. Orange customers are being offered the iPad (wifi & 3G) for £199 on a 24-month contract at £25 a month.

£35-£25 = £10.

Over 24 months I'd pay £240 more than on the iPad contract. Buying the iPad outright.

Add to this a cheapy little phone for texts/calls, call this £30. Already £10 up.

I'd sell my Blackberry and (maybe iTouch). Could get ~£200 for the two of them.

So now I'm ~£210 up.

Then, I probably wouldn't need my laptop either, could get £150 (at a push) for it.

£360 up.

What say you, bf2s?

The only time I use internet on the go on my phone is when I'm sitting down somewhere munching. If I'm in a wi-fi zone, and I have my laptop with me, I use that.

Keep coming though, gonna draw up a pros/cons list.

Although, bluetooth headset would A) make me look like a prick and B) make me look like I'm talking to myself a lot.

Sell blackberry, buy a cheap phone, get a mobile internet dongle for laptop. Seems like a cheaper solution to me.

I agree. I was thinking about getting it myself but then its not the best device for everything. There are better ebook readers, better phones, laptops with higher capacity and faster disks, it doesn't have a single USB slot, etc. There also the high price tag. I'd rather wait for V2 and see what that version has to offer.

your link option is the best one yet. silly to get a crappy phone and a an ipad for internet, youre not going to carry it around with you. and how was that relevant floppy, people dont wear backpacks 24/7. if youre going to change, go for the 3GS so you have a smartphone and mobility

I just meant that I hate those people who walk around with them in their ears all the time...

If I had one it would be in my pocket untill the phone rang and I'd put it on my ear... (but that's kinda what you do with a phone)

also you get locked in to a 2 year contract. Something tells me you'll get bored of the ipad within 2 years and want something better.

Still costs money. If you use your phone regularly then you should factor in the (guess) £15 that it's going to cost you per month. It's not really any different, in terms of costs, to a contract.
