So I decided to modernize/rewrite the lyrics to "eve of destruction" after reading a post by Kmar...
there's a lot of changes, almost ALL the historical/current event (at the time) references are changed.
also "you don't want to believe" is changed to "you want to believe"
I would like to know whether anyone is interested in singing this... Kmar says IHRC there are some singers.
changed parts are in bold
The whole world, it is exploding
Violence flarin', tear gas floatin'
You're old enough to drive, but not for smokin' (lame substitution ikr)
You don't believe in war, but what's that game you're totin' (the rise of the moral-killing FPS, OMFG)
And even the media isn't sugar-coatin' (they're exaggeratin!)
But you tell me
Over and over and over again, my friend
Ah, you want to believe
We're on the eve
of destruction.
Don't you understand what I'm tryin' to say
Can't you feel the fears I'm feelin' today?
If the glaciers melt, there's no runnin' away
There'll be no room to live, with the world in a haze
[Take a look around ya boy, it's bound to scare ya boy]
And you tell me
Over and over and over again, my friend
Ah, you want to believe
We're on the eve
of destruction.
Yeah, my blood's so mad feels like coagulatin'
I'm sitting here just contemplatin'
You can't twist the truth, it knows no regulation.
Marrying two men isn't eternal damnation'
And rainbow marches alone can't vent frustration'
When human respect is disintegratin'
This whole crazy world is just too gay-hatin'
And you tell me
Over and over and over again, my friend
Ah, you want to believe
We're on the eve
of destruction.
Think of all the hate there is in Red China
Then take a look around to New Orleans, Louisiana
You may leave here with a ticket for a day in space
But when you return, it's the same old place
The gleamin of the shields, the baton and mace
You can bury your dead, but don't leave a trace
Hate your next-door neighbor, but don't forget to say grace
And… tell me over and over and over and over again, my friend
You want to believe
We're on the eve
Of destruction
Mm, no no, you want to believe
We're on the eve
of destruction.
