my first thought wasn't my own ego. my first thought is the woman you disrespect. that line was appealing to macbeth's cynical self-interest and talk about 'souls'. sleeping with a hooker is like admitting you're finished, the male equivalent of fish feed.
the cartels traffic a lot more than cocaine and represent a much bigger problem/power vacuum than nice little middle-class british people generating a demand for drugs. in any case, saying no to a prostitute is a pretty clear-cut direct decision, not some proxy responsibility offloaded on the end-consumer through a 1,000-point chain.
i haven't taken any drug since the new year, anyway. i'm not sure where the 'why do you need chemicals to have fun' thing comes from. doesn't everyone attenuate their mood in some way or other using chemicals, pretty regularly? seems like a normal human decision to me. different category of choice to paying another human being to look at your cock.
