better luck next time

Whoever told you that forgot to mention the archaic practice of having to know how to parallel park. Nowadays you can just have someone else do it for you and there's cars that automatically do it too.ghettoperson wrote:

parallel parking isn't archaic lol... out in the 'burbs of this area yeah but in DC it's essential_j5689_ wrote:

Not to mention they're implementing road tests now, to make you shit your pants in front of somebody you don't know while waiting for traffic to let you in. Not that I even made it that far.
My mom already scheduled my next one for wednesday.
I practiced as much as I could with parallel parking, it's no good when you're so worried you literally can't think, which I already knew was going to happen. I didn't know what the curb looked like or where it was until I was already in the space and then I had to back up to see a long cement block like you would find in a parking space and that counted as the "curb". And then the only thing I could think to do was keep reversing and turning the wheel and going forward and turning the wheel the other way and just put in park to see if I was close, did that five times. Couldn't do it in the allotted amount of time.Spamtheban wrote:

what did you expect?
Yeah, but I'd just have someone else do it, not like my Crown Vic fits anywhere anyway. I have to keep retaking the test in my grandma's 04 Corolla.Hurricane2k9 wrote:

I DID practice parallel parking, I was too nervous to function on the test anyway.Ilocano wrote:
Parallel parking is the norm here in SoCal suburbia. Curious why you didn't practice all the components though. You should even be able to practice it at the DMV when they are closed.
Then I'll just find one of those garages where you pay them to park it. Or I'll just take the train from New Carrolton into DC or something to avoid that. Or I'll bullshit my way into a space, it's not impossible if you have no time limit or set amount of times/pressure you can hit the curb with.Hurricane2k9 wrote:

I was doing fine at it with the practice cones but the distance isn't the same. They actually give you more space on the test than we were practicing with. Doesn't help though if I can't think about what I'm doing cuz I'm too nervous, that's what fucks me up for a lot of things in life. There's too much vested in this test.Hurricane2k9 wrote:
christ dude, you could also just practice parallel parking till you're good at it and then you won't have to worry about it

I would but they close the gates to the testing area when they close the DMV. I have no idea why but it's fucking dumbKimmmmmmmmmmmm wrote:
all you can do is practice tho.. so head up to the dmv tonight when it's closed.. i bet there are some cones you can use there
Well, on your first try, you can take it the day after but every day but Wednesday they're usually booked almost full and the free times don't fit into my schedule anyway because I have school every day except Wednesday. So yeah every Wednesday I can take it until I pass.Dauntless wrote:
if you can do it in a small space, the only difference in the test is you just need to reverse backwards in a straight line
can you take the test every week? over here you have to wait 2 weeks between each test, and in london the waiting times are a few months long anyway..
