Not sure tbh, sure someone will come up with some suggestions though.

You'd be fine with 1600mhz TBH. I would take the extra 100 and get a GTX580 instead of the 6970. Youll get higher min frames and a marginally higher max frame. What are you using for cooling? Going to overclock? 100$ can get you one hell of a cpu cooler.cdailey2142 wrote:
The I5 is only $100 cheaper. Would that be better spent on 2000mhz RAM instead of 1600mhz or where would you put that extra money?coke wrote:
As Sonder says, unless you plan on doing stuff such as video editing etc. the i5 would be a much better choice, in terms of both price and performance in games.
I am overclocking by 30% and using CyberPower Xtreme Hydro Liquid Cooling Kit 360MM w/ Triple Fan(CPU & GPU Liquid Cool to cool the processor.

Well, those are my suggestions. But its your build my friend. Do what you feel is best! I mean, isn't that the fun of system building is teh customization options and personalization(sp)?!
I agree, but it really helped to get the info from you guys. Thanks for the help.SonderKommando wrote:

here's a quick benchmark from BC2 that will show you the performance gains of the 580. Im currently doing a new build too and was going to CF 2 6970's but have decided on dual 580's after looking at some benches.
Is there much performance difference between 3GB 580 and 2.5GB 570?
It seems you need over 2GB vram on any card so that means the normal 580 and normal 570 a bit useless.
I can confirm ill be running 1920x1200 as my monitor finally gave up, and im going to buy that £280 IPS Dell 24.
Ill be running a 19" screen in 2d at the same time (this handles voice comms).
This is the rig i have specced now:
Many thanks.

How's this look guys? Should I be able to run the game on high at 1280X900 resolution? Budget is limited to about 1050 bucks, and I'm damn close with this.
Edit - Should I just go with the 1GB card and add more cooling?

Been doing some research, and have read that BF3 is more gpu intensive than BC2 which was the other way round?
I have the following already
Q9450
Noctua tower cooler
Gigabyte P45 DS3
4GB Kingston PC8500
Im wondering if i even need a new cpu and ram? I can run mine at 3.8GHZ, and the monitor is going to be run at 1080p (27" Ilyama, the dell backlight bleeds too much )
This will save me about £400!
Thanks

Yeah you will probably be ok with that processor, I think the best thing really to do now is wait till it's out and if you have the money/desire for an upgrade do it then when you will have a good idea of what you will need.
AMD 955 @ 3.8GHz
4GBs 1600 8-8-8-24
5770 1GB 960/1315
I will be playing at 1366x768 windowed.

Use the code SPRING0410 for a 5% discount. I'm ordering mine from there as well.iceman785 wrote:

Ive ordered mine now, i opted for EVGA 570 2.5GB. Didnt seem worth going for 580 3GB.
is this enough to play this game at least on medium?
cpu: Q6600 at 2.4 Ghz
ram: 4GB OCZ
Video Card: Radeon HD4890
HDD: 500GB
MB: P5Q deluxe
Audio: Creative X-Fi xtreme audio 7.1

oc your quad, get a better vid card and 2 gigs more ram and you can play on high.

the one that matches your budget.

The big question is: Can I buy a PC good enough to play it - on decent settings - for £500?
I already needed to build a new PC for my wife's video editing and photography stuff so I just beefed it up a little moar to handle BF3.
