I haven't cared enough about Libya to follow it, but what is our extent in the hostilities there? I am currently under the (perhaps) ignorant impression that all we're doing is functioning in an air support role with NATO. We don't have any ground troups in country, do we?

It is pretty much a pointless war.

Yea... I saw them a hubs in-case the US needed to ramp up a military presence or for logistical support.  However, we've got carriers that are more than capable platforms.
Yeah but you don't always have a carrier lying around. Satellite bases have their advantages, moreover they're absolutely necessary if you're eyeing a deployment in another country. Clinton for example intended to go into Afghanistan after the USS Cole, but he couldn't get basing rights in Uzbekistan. You got them after 9/11.

Anyway you can leave the majority of your bases. There is absolutely little reason if any to have as many military bases within the EU as you do. Keeping those you have in the ME around however wouldn't be a bad idea.

edit; wops Iraq, Afghanistan ofc
We could do with decreasing the amount of bases we have in Europe, yes.
The irony of guns, is that they can save lives.

Well we have advisors helping train the rebels as well as intelligence officers on the ground. No grunts though.

https://news.bbcimg.co.uk/media/images/53738000/jpg/_53738158_012320506-1.jpgAfghan officials have issued an arrest warrant for the former governor of the central bank, Abdul Qadeer Fitrat.

He is being investigated in connection with massive fraud at the privately owned Kabul Bank and the printing of unauthorised amounts of currency.

Earlier, it emerged Mr Fitrat had fled Afghanistan for the US - he said his life was in danger for exposing fraud.

He said the Afghan government had hindered his attempts to investigate corruption.

Afghanistan's Deputy Attorney General Rahmatullah Nazari said he would ask the US embassy and Interpol for help in securing Mr Fitrat's arrest.

"He will be brought here to face the judiciary. We will follow him," he told the BBC.

"There are some serious charges against him. He needs to answer all of them.''

The US - where Mr Fitrat has residency - does not have an extradition treaty with Afghanistan. He has said he has no plans to return to Afghanistan.

No. It's not like he's handing out MoHs every other day. Those are so few and far between--and should be such an honor for him to be involved in--that every detail should be ingrained in his brain until the day he dies. Especially the first one. Especially if it was posthumous.

Not going to say he's a disgrace to the military. That's a bit harsh. Honestly, I think civil-military relations have improved overall under Obama (mainly because of Gates...we'll see how Panetta does). But he gets no slack for this slip up.

Oh but he did get slack for this.  No major news network is running this story.  He called he family and apologized, but I still stand by that statement.
