IT STILL beggars belief to consider that the American government treats the Wikileaks trove of diplomatic cables as classified, making it is illegal for US officials who lack the proper security clearance to go online and read them—something any middling journalist or al-Qaeda operative can do. It actually sets up a situation whereby American diplomats must interact with foreign counterparts who may be better informed than they are.

Surely they wouldn't ever try to prosecute someone over that though? That situation is a perfect example of why jury nullification exists.

http://reason.com/brickbat/2011/05/16/hard-travelingIn Essex, England, Tracy St. Clair Pearce found a gang of "travelers" trespassing on her property and cutting down her trees for firewood. When she told them to leave, they allegedly threw stones at her and threatened to kill her and harm her animals. So she called the police. When the police finally arrived, they didn't do anything about the travelers, but they did seize a shotgun that St. Clair Pearce legally owns as a "sensible precaution."

I made a thread about how it sucked before. I could find it if you actually care to read it.
But in a nutshell- it eliminates medicaid as a federal program and gives it out to states as grants for them to use as they wish. Which is cool. It also turns medicare into a voucher program. So instead of getting health care coverage elderly instead get a coupon to cover some of the cost of private health insurance insurance. It saves a lot of money for the federal government but at the same time the program lowers taxes across the board. So we go from the very low taxes of the Bush tax cuts (35% top tier IIRC) to a new low of the Ryan tax cuts (25% top tier IIRC). It reduces taxes across the board but also removes reductions. Which has debatable consequences...
I don't exactly have a problem with the changes to medicare and medicaid but I don't want to see taxes cut any lower. For anyone. We already have some of the lowest taxes in the world (personal) and his plan would just be setting us up for more structural deficits.

anything that drops the tax rate for the extremely rich while shifting the cost on to the lower classes is not necessary.

It won't get passed.
without his plan we go broke since there is no real alternative.
Shifting the cost onto the lower classes? The lower classes don't pay any taxes at all. Why should the rich pay the bills of the poor? Ridiculous.eleven bravo wrote:

we've been broke for decades. thats just not true. he wants to give the extremely rich a tax rate of 25% compared to the already low one it is now. dropping taxes keeps the government from collecting revenue. how is that supposed to make us less broke?
