i've got a really weird problem which came up just recently where my mic only picks up faint headphone output sound but not my voice. I've been using this headset for about a year now without any issues and I haven't made any changes to the audio settings. moreover, i tested the headset on my laptop and it works fine. I'm using an analog Turtlebeach headset with onboard Realtek audio on Vista 64. I've tried updating/rolling back drivers but the problem persists. Any ideas?

Input messed up?
I stood in line for four hours. They better give me a Wal-Mart gift card, or something.  - Rodney Booker, Job Fair attendee.

I installed my old Audigy 2 sound card and everything works except for the mic. could this be an issue with my configuration and is there a way to check that?

You probably have "stereo mix" enabled in the audio settings.

it was turned off on my onboard audio and doesn't even appear as an option with Audigy 2

i can't find the option to disable/enable onboard audio anywhere in BIOS. and now it's disappeared in device manager as well. this is an issue that defies any logic in the computing world and anyone who's brave enough to help me solve it will be rewarded 1000 internets in the form of one karma point.
