Some engineers at my uni are competing today for a $250,000 prize. If they can make their helicopter hover within a 32.8 sq ft area for 60 seconds, they win. Nobody's done it since it was created 30 years ago.

I think modern choppers are a bit beyond that. Only thing i could see being viable would be the gear train between the "motor" and the part where it splits off to the 4 props.
It's about making helicopters achieve more lift while using less resources. Taking advantage of lightweight construction, aerodynamics that haven't been tested before, etc. This is a great achievement if they can pull it off.Stimey wrote:
