Finished first season of True Detective. Liked it a lot, got hooked quickly and binged it in a week. Kinda cheesy in some places, but I like the detective stuff. Louisiana is a weird place. Looking forward to season two.
Season 2 of Fear the Walking Dead started. It is a pretty stupid show just like the original walking dead. They took a cool concept and ruined it.
Finished The Newsroom.
Pretty self-righteous about the whole Liberal thing in the first season but I was able to get past it. They tried to play it off by claiming the main character to be conservative but he spent most of his time beating up on republicans so it didn't help anything. Sanctimonious/holier than though/etc. etc.
It seems they caught on with the criticism because seasons 2 and 3 were much less so, and lo and behold they had better ratings.
In any event I'm a fan of Aaron Sorkin so it worked for me regardless, sad they cancelled it.

Newsroom lead beat up on the Tea Party not the Republicans in season 1.
Show was set up for 3 seasons only.... show costs.

Well yeah, but there were a few conservatives bashing scenes - the gay soldier, the rick santorum campaign manager, etc. They certainly laid into the tea party most of the first season though.
And the show had a specific end date? Or costs through the seasons and the ratings caused them to call it?

Cast contracts, from the start, were for three seasons.
Let's kill my dead lovers whole family.....
This season is great so far. The tower of joy scene was awesome. A lot of people are calling it one of the best sword fight scenes filmed.RTHKI wrote:
game of thrones. better than last season besides hardhome/10
dorne storyline is still the worst thing in the show
A friend of mine started watching the show from season 1 and keeps asking me clarification questions. It is interesting how easy it is to forget characters and scenes from the early seasons since they were so long ago. It is a good example of the saying "life goes on"
By the time I watch it, the show's always spoiled for me by book fans pulling their hair out about deviations from the original plot. HBO doesn't think Amazon Prime is worthy of getting new GoT episodes in a timely fashion, but at least I get Transparent …
Adding time travel to GoT legitimately annoys me. Especially the way they did it.
The theory going around is that Bran made the Mad King go crazy by trying to change the past. Awful idea.
The white walkers origin didn't bother me.

Ratings are at an all time high and they have two more short seasons planned. They probably want to get this wrapped up
"Burn them all!" maybe it was the 3ER that drove the king mad. Poor Hodor.
Time Travel and resurrecting a character from the dead. Sounds like the writers are out of ideas. Two of the laziest wrinkles to add to a story.
Really been digging Last Week Tonight with John Oliver lately. Easily 7/10. Some of his jokes are a little too dorky but all around a great great show. A way better successor to the Daily Show.

Bringing back people from the dead has been in the story since the beginning. Beric Dondarrion, who was killed by the hound in the cave in the trial by combat, has been resurrected 8 times now.

lazy storywriting. Spend 6 paragraphs describing the nascent dew on the bark of the enchanted forest, then travel through time and resurrect characters.
I am going to have to side with Jay here regarding resurrection. They set it up since season 3. They didn't just add it like they did with time travel. The show has Shadow monsters, zombies, and a dozen other things that are weirder and more contrived than resurrection.
People keep tossing around the words "time travel" and I feel that doesn't adequately describe what's happened. That just makes it sound like it would be no big deal if Arya used witchcraft go back in time and save Ned from execution like in Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure.
setting it up is even lazier! It gives you outs to plot holes and dead ends. Truly truly lazy storywriting.SuperJail Warden wrote:

I haven't read any of the books and have maybe watched 30 mins max of the show itself.
Wow, that is perhaps the smallest amount of background and context I've seen someone admit to when criticizing something.
