Really, most people don't really need a self-defence weapon except in circumstances they could probably avoid. Even then they don't need a full-size pistol with a 15 round mag - unless they know 15 people who don't like them.
Which arbitrary limit would you like?

You do realize that pistol ammunition has a relatively low rate of instant/near-instant incapacitation, don't you?  It can take several rounds to stop an attacker.  Now, factor in the possibility of missing while under immense stress and the possibility of multiple attackers.  How many rounds to you think it would take?

magazine restrictions has never stopped any crazy or criminal here from getting un-neutered mags here

the only thing it does is make it annoying to shoot semi auto rifles at the range

A redesigned, shortened 1911 in 9mm.  Nice choice.

I'm partial to 1911s.

Why carry 5 shots of .38, when you can carry 14 or 15 shots of 9 mm or .40 sw? Get a semi auto and more shots. With it you got CCW and home and truck protection.
Good point.  Glock is looking very attractive in price and reliability.
Because you need at least 15 rounds for self defence?
No.  There are Glock pistols which carry less.  But hey, if you can have 15, why not.  Ideally I'll get a full size pistol for home and range and a smaller one for conceal carry.

Every missed shot is a stray bullet which could kill a bystander, if you need more than five or six shots you need to learn to shoot, not get into that kind of situation in the first place, and if 2-3 guys are gunning for you you've probably had it before you've even drawn.

Does everyone who carries concealed have or need a full size pistol with a 15 round magazine? I doubt it.

Large cap magazines just encourage people to spray bullets around in the hope of hitting something.

I have a Glock 30 which holds 11 rounds of .45acp. If you don't like that, you are gunna HATE this: I also carry an extra clip which holds 13

People that carry are very unassuming people, they do not want the attention, nor do they seek it. We are probably less likely to get into a confrontation because we carry and know what the consequences of that confrontation can be. When I carry, ( which is all the time where the law permits me) I avoid any places and try to avoid any situations that can put me in a position I do not want to be in. I do not want to kill anyone and I do not want to even draw down on anyone. I simply refuse to become a victim without a fight that is all.

If that's the case, and it's obviously sensible, why carry at all? I know it's your right and all, I just don;t understand it.
I just find the idea carrying any sort of weapon around on a daily basis when you're in a relatively safe part of town as being a really weird thing to do.

It all boils down to the what I highlighted. Also, bad things happen in a relatively safe part of town as well.

Fair enough. Just to me it sounds like you're taking enough precautions as it is.
I guess it's a cultural thing. Over here no one carries or owns guns, unless they are farmers.

move to Atlanta, and see if you change your mind.

You will not believe this, but in my youth, early 20's I was all for gun control and used the pretty much the same arguments used against me, ( except the bullshit about all gun owners being crazed paranoid freaks hell bent on gunning someone down) but as the realities of life and society took hold, I realized I was wrong.
