Although we can't publish any actual benchmarks as yet, what we have for you is a quick preview of Gigabyte's upcoming A75M-UD2H motherboard alongside AMD's A8-3850 APU running Crysis 2 with a bit of a twist, or two. Click on through for a short video and some details on how to overclock an APU.

In all fairness, we didn't do the overclocking, but we'll let you guess who did it, but if you have a look at the video you'll see Crysis 2 running on AMD's A8-8350 APU at 30-40fps. The run is only using the built in Radeon HD 6550D GPU, although neither is running at stock speed. To the story goes that we saw the setup hitting 60fps, but the system wasn't 100 percent stable with the air cooler used and as such we weren't able to grab any video of this.

Awesome! Looks like laptops that can play games will become more commonplace, and some small gaming rigs as well!

Maybe I'm a little out of touch with new tech these days, but what the fuck is an APU?

tl;dr a GPU inside the CPU

That's great, but can it run...

i'd love to see a laptop with that kind of heatsink haha.  What's the point of having an integrated graphics processor if you still need a heatsink that size?

You're only paying for 1 component~ not 2 ....

Yeah but I bet it performs worse and costs more than a decent CPU/GPU setup.

That would be completely pointless... It's gonna be cheaper than that, obviously. But it kicks the arse out of integrated graphics chips on motherboards, and it's on par, or slightly better than low end dedicated cards.

I think it is completely pointless. At least until they get the technology sorted out so they can fit it in a laptop, but the heatsink on that is gigantic so that's not happening any time soon.

Yeah but, it's very good for HTPCs, small form-factor pcs/gaming pcs, and video editing pcs.

AMD are showing us you don't need a massive graphics card to be able to casually play games.

The heatsink is just there because they were testing overclocking... The apu is designed for notebooks and doesn't require such a heatsink.
