it's a bit of a catch-22, though, because for the google circles feature to have any real huge benefit, you're going to need lots of... well... different circles of friends using google+. they won't. 99% of people will stay on facebook.
Exactly what i've been thinking.

....in any case i hope this "style" is picked up by whichever social network is the most popular.

i've already been able to exclude certain people or bosses or teachers or family members from my facebook feed postings... every single thing you post has an easily-customisable 'privacy' settings. this circle business is just a fancy way of rephrasing what facebook have had with their privacy groupings and separate facebook chat contact lists for years. it's boring. i just don't see why we need another social network. didn't myspace just sell for $35million dollars in a quiet flop of business disappointment about a week ago? everything is centralized now on facebook and i think google are going to waste a lot of money trying to drive a wedge into that market majority.

$0.02
I agree. The majority of people simply don't give a shit about things that are different, even if they're 'better'.

Google+ actually has potential on the Enterprise, especially collaboration.  Sharing documents only to specific circles.  Integrated with Google Apps.  Project teams in different circles.   Google+ would actually help me in PM'ing on a new project proposal I'm working on.

Nope.  But that's Shared Space now isn't it?  Seems too social.  I need something with a feature set that can put similar tools together like Microsoft Projects, Communicator, Exchange, Webex, VOIP, development, etc, for multiple projects happening at the same time.  Obviously, not gonna all happen with Google+.  But maybe it'll help manage for each project for coordinating meetings, discussions, issues, managing people in the project, milestones and timings, etc.

Looks interesting.  Google+ will probably get most of Wave's capabilities.

I hopes so too. Though it is being pitched as a social tool, not a collaboration tool.

Computerworld article from yesterday was saying it could be used to pull all of it's office-based efforts together.  Integrating Google Apps.  Using Hangout for video conferences, for example.

Same here.  Luckily I'm usually involved with most new software technology initiatives at work.

I'm liking Google's Music beta.

Gmail, ads, google docs, search .. those are Google's bread and butter.

I'm surprised google voice is still limited to NA. It's pretty useful to people who use their phone a lot for work.

if you're added to a circle, and then someone shares something to that circle, it appears you get an invite.

If you have it and you want to send invites go the the stream and do a new post - then where it says "add more people" (in the share options) type email addresses - it should automatically get them from your gmail contacts so typing names works too
