i'm interested in knowing who here uses tumblr - either to post your own stuff, add to the crowds of compulsive recyclers, or just to keep a tab on many an interesting topic. yes, yes, i know that tumblr is basically the next in line to myspace and live-journal in terms of mass-market, self-obsessed pretentious pseudo-wankery... but there are some diamonds in the rough, as with every platform. i'm basically just interested in compiling a list/index of people who you follow or like that are, well, worth sharing. personally for me i find the platform of tumblr very good for just having a daily browse of interesting art, photography and literature (i.e. quotes, selected passages). suffice to say, you can leave all of the self-obsessed teen drama out of it, as well as the crappy tumblr stuff that floats around being reblogged endlessly because it's 'deep' (please, no photos of you reading a catcher in the rye).

so, please share some that you think are great! i'll start it off by saying that i've spent many an hour reading and discovering new stuff on these ones:

It's all self-centred bullshit, it's a fad for hipsters and it's not gonna last.

thanks for not reading my post at all. tumblr has been around for years-- it's a microblogging site, perfect for photography and art. who cares who uses it for what purpose nowadays? that's like saying facebook is full of self-obsessed people showing off and defining themselves in 100's of 'likes'. well, not really. it still has a benefit and a purpose, depending on the user. same argument with twitter and the oft-raised objection (courtesy of lowing & co.) about twitter being nothing but 140 character lists of breakfasts and non-events. well, again, not really. thanks for the amazing contribution, though... nice to know our resident tastemaker and high judge finray is on board!

i've been using tumblr for about 2 years, even before i knew what twitter was, when it was just another easy alternative blogging platform other than wordpress and blogspot. so i don't really know what you're talking about; maybe it's less a case of me being at fault and more likely the usual case of scotland being about 5 decades behind the rest of the western world?

Tumblr's pretty cool. I don't personally use it as a lot of others use it (I just have a random blog for my @AmericanAnDerTU Twitter account and then another to showcase my "professional" knowledge that I post to every now and again), but it's a great idea. I totally agree with you Uzi - excellent platform for exactly the stuff you described. There's no clicking through to links or whatever like on Twitter, just a nice feed to browse through. Sorry I can't recommend anything to you, but if I do come across something I'll be sure to post in this thread.

I started a tumblr account in 2009. Never really did anything with it. I treated it like Friendfeed (just an aggregation service). It's an embarrassment really .
