So my pc broke last week, I think it's the processor (C2Duo E8500) and at the price to replace that ~£150 and the fact that my system is a fair few years old I think it would be better long term to upgrade.

I have a screen, mouse, keyboard, hard drives, optical drives, so all I really need is;

CPU (Thinking i7 2600k?) + cooler (or is the stock cooler ok, I won't be overclocking)
GPU (GTX 570 or 6950/70?)
Mobo (An Asus P67 board?)
Ram (8GB of DDR3, Corsair, G.Skill?)
Case (No idea)
PSU (I've had Corsair previously, 580W, 700W, what would be sufficient?)

Unless there's anything I've missed, I think that's it.

Budget is £7-800, I don't really want to spend much more, the i7 2600k isn't set in stone, nor is the graphics card.

I won't be playing the latest games, except for BF3 it will mainly be for general internet usage, watching movies, facebook, microsoft office etc

Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Edit: You can use the websites - www.scan.co.uk and www.overclockers.co.uk to find UK prices

Apparently the i5's are better cost/performance wise for gaming so go for the i5 2500k, if you aren't over clocking the cooler will be fine but, of course a better one will be quieter. Everything else seems ok, 700w psu would be more than enough.

Like Coke says, i5 is a great CPU, the i7 would be overkill for your needs, as would a 570 I think. 560Ti is a great card, and will run BF3 pretty damn well.

I've been eyeing up a very similar upgrade myself, for CPU, GFX, ram, mobo and PSU at about £500 (on a tight budget), so done a bit of research on some of the stuff you'll be looking at. If you've got the money to spare the 570 is good but as Finray said the 560Ti would be a solid choice for less money, it's what I'm thinking of getting.

if you do not plan on any overclocking then you don't need "k" cpu. might as well get plain 2500 or 2600 and save some money - those are identical to their respective "k" models in every way except for locked multiplier.
if you open your mind too much your brain will fall out.

That looks pretty good. Never heard about the case, but the rest looks great. I'd stick with the i5k, it's not that much more expensive than the normal version and if you ever decide to overclock you can.

Cooler Master is an alright brand, but Corsair is better, try this one for £5 more

aside from that looks great.

it's not like you can't overclock a cpu with a locked multiplier - it's not as flexible, yeah, but still quite potent, especially if you have good oc memory.

The 2500 is £20 cheaper than the K version, I will go for that, I don't want to be spending unneccesarily, any overclocking I do would be minimal, I don't trust myself to fiddle around too much with something that will set me back another £150+.

The case was recommended on several review sites too and it's cheap.

Changed the PSU, I've been looking around on review sites and that Coolermaster one was recommended, I've gone Corsair in the past though.

What are the advantages of Modular compared to Non-Modular PSU's?

I would pick a MB that supports CF and SLI. The LE only supports CF.
Maybe the PRO version? or Asus Z68 PRO version?

how much does a 6950 2gb cost in your area?

I dunno I can't really see the need for xfire/sli mobo on a build like this, particularly when you looking to save money, saying that a modular psu is probably worth the extra cash if you have scaled back the cpu etc. if the budget allows.

it is up to him and his specs/budget, u r correct.  i just see it as an advantage to be able to add one gpu more later on.

I'm not gonna SLI or Crossfire in the future, 6950 2GB are ~£40 more, I don't think I'd notice that extra 5% increase though so will stick with the GTX560Ti.

Probably going to stick with that modular Coolermaster psu afterall, the 600W one - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showprodu … ubcat=1103

Good guide from a mate. Tells you what should happen when you install RAM correctly.

Keep an eye out for the z68 mobos, on-board ssd cache for the hdd. I'm going for an i5 when i get back to college, seems like its the killer price/performance build if the decade.

Got it up and running, everything seems to be working fine

Didn't start up and shut down within 5 secs due to bad heatsink placement like the last build I did, so so quiet too
