Got a home theater question...

I've got an HDMI switch that I have hooked up to my DVD player and my PC. It's like an AV switch with just a few hardware switches on the front to change what device is currently able to output to my TV. The problem is that the PC can output no problem at all but the moment I switch over to the DVD player, things go wrong. Sometimes the DVD player will show the splash screen but once the DVD begins playing the picture if often not there or it is but distorted and without sound.

DVD player and TV are both from Samsung and the player works perfectly fine when I connect it directly to the TV. The switch was bought in the USA while everything else was bought here in Austria (but the DVD player is no longer region-locked since I found the code to do so). Anyone have any ideas what I could do to get this working properly?

Is there another input on the HDMI switch you can try for the DVD connection?  If you've already bypassed hte switch with the DVD player using the same media cable then that would kinda narrow it down to the switch.  Maybe switch the PC and DVD inputs and see if it plays right on the known working input?

I've swapped out the different inputs and they all seem to be messed up but the thing is, it ONLY happens with the DVD player. The PC connection works beautifully, I can't complain about it and that's what is confusing me so much.

can you update the firmware on the dvd player?

So I figured out what the problem was. It seemed the cable was somehow bad. It worked when I plugged it directly into the TV but over the switch it didn't work. Bought a mini-HDMI -> HDMI cable to connect my GPU to my TV and get rid of the DVI adapter (second monitor is using that DVI port now) and I had an extra HDMI cable from the computer to the TV that I wasn't using anymore. Started swapping out HDMI cables and discovered that the cable was the issue... I have NO idea why it would work when directly connected to the TV and not over the switch but it was definitely the cable that was causing problems for me.

Now my entire home entertainment system works perfectly: PC connected to two monitors and my switch (but since I use an Nvidia card I can only drive two displays at a time, so have to swap the outputs via control panel since I don't want to buy a second card), DVD player connected to switch, DVR/HD cable box connected to TV and finally switch connected to TV. 4 HDMI cables, 2 DVI cables and a partridge in a pear tree...

If anyone can think of a reason WHY the cable would work directly via the TV and not via the switch, please tell me because that is absolutely baffling to me.
