Hi there

Since listen to all my music via my computer, I was thinking about getting a new soundcard/better headphones. Right now I have Sennheiser HD215's and some budget XFi piece of shit. So, what should I get? Say 200GBP in total. I know people go on about external soundcards a lot. Would I be better off getting one of those, or do they not really fit into my budget? Anyway, I don't really know much about this sort of stuff, so just tell me what I should do.

I can't offer much as I've only just delved into this world myself last week.
FWIW I got an Asus Xonar Essence STX (PCI-E, the ST is the PCI version, same specs otherwise).
From what I've been reading an external DAC is better, but costlier. You get what you pay for, that old chestnut.

Anyway, the card I got is more suited to listening to music than gaming. This isn't to say it doesn't do well at both, but a really good gaming card will not beat it when it comes to music reproduction, or at least according to a number of reviews I have read. Personally I've noticed a big improvement in my aural experience since getting mine.

No doubt there are others out there more knowledgeable than I, just felt like adding my 2 cents

Eh, I play games about once a month at most, so I don't really want anything made for gaming, especially if it has F4T4L1TY!11 written on it.

Only thing is with the card I recommended is the drivers are notoriously shitty. Although most complaints were last year and 2009, when it was first released. I've had minor issues of occasional pops or clicks during playback.

This is probably a bit of overkill for what you want as it's really intended for recording audio with programs like Pro Tools, but it is very good - http://www.m-audio.com/products/en_us/Delta1010LT.html
