Problem instlaling sound card drivers after re-format.

Lo all,

I'm having trouble installing sound-card drivers. My sound card is a Creative X-Fi extreme music, model number SB0460.

I've found the drivers, tried to install them, but I get an error message saying

Setup is unable to detect a supported product on your system. Please ensure that your product is properly installed before running this Setup program.

Setup will exit.

This is happening with the drivers from the Creative website, and the revised drivers that are on the interwebs.

Properly annoying me now...

Any thoughts?

It's getting power, the logo is glowing red. I've tried it in 2 different slots now.

Thats not the device manager my friend. Start, right click computer, properties, device manager. It will prob show under unknown devices.. Is it fully seated? Assuming its PCI?

Yours is under Other Devices Multimedia Audio Controller or Unknown device. The Nvidia ones are probably the ones that are built into your graphics card for PCM auido over HDMI

yeah, clicked on the "unknown device", tells me the drivers are not installed. no shit. went to update driver, nothing doing there.

I think its most likely the Multimedia Audio Controller. If you open the properties for that entry and choose the detail tab what is the value? Whats the Hardware ID? You can google the hardware ID and see what it comes up with. Windows might just be hosed and cant see the hardware.
