I need a new laptop for school, and I'd like it to be able to at least play TF2 at medium-ish settings. It will be my primary computer until probably sometime between October and February, when I'd like to build a new gaming desktop. I don't really do anything else demanding, or at least don't plan on it... It's a plus if it can run TF2, L4D, and L4D2 at 1440 x 900 on my desktop monitor, which I think either should be able to do at at least low-ish settings. I had a bad experience with an HP machine from something like 2005 that we used to have, but I've heard few complaints from people I know who've bought HP laptops in the last two years, so I think they are getting better hopefully. My friend's dad swears by the Vostro his work issued him a couple years ago, he suggested looking at those.
I've also been looking at the XPS 15 and 15z, if you guys think either of those would be better. I know none of these will have spectacular battery life, but I'd like to think that I could get at least three hours of web browsing or word processing on battery.
I like the idea of having a lot of storage, since my iTunes has about 80GB of music and podcasts and shit, but I'm not a huge fan of 5400rpm drives, they're a bit slow for my taste.
