yes i checked the search.. but people just ramble on about how they use it in battle. i want to know how to use it use it.. i know how to talk into a mic. how do i get to that point.. do i click the icon in the battlefield file and enter an IP address and if so how do i do know what ip to enter .. i play so many different servers(best ping available) i have set up the settings for the mic and now i just need to know how to apply it for use.
i am work so i can't say exactly, but i do know this, make sure the "voip" box is checked in the audio options section and you can even check to make sure it is working there also. enter a room that has the headphone symbol next to it, join a squad, hold the b button down and start talking. (there is no entering of an ip---it is all through the server ur playing on)
thanks man.. i havent used "voip" since team forteress.
one more tho.. i have a built in mic in my monitor.. its prob a good idea to get a headset right?

yeah, those built in mics don't really work that well.
but for further explanations: there's a file in your bf2 directory called BF2VoiceSetup.exe
run this file to set up your mic for best performance (volume, etc). then as jimbo said make sure voip is checked and the server you join has the headphone-icon. then you can use the in-game "battlecommo"
hold down the b-key to talk to your squad. the v-key is for talking to your commander (but i believe you can only do this if you're squad leader)

Personally, since getting the game VoiP has only ever worked twice for me.. for around a minute or under each time. Then blam... it just stops working (sending or receiving)...
So I just use TS which only provides half the functionality seeing as I cant communicate with squad mates or the commander etc..
Oh well..
