Okay so I have my computer hooked up to my own router upstairs in the house. Downstairs my parents have their own router where the printer and their computers are hooked into. Now my router is hooked into theirs making mine into a switch basically. How can I get my desktop to recognize the wireless printer on their router while I'm connected to mine? Karma to winnars.

Printer: (I think this one) http://www.amazon.com/HP-Deskjet-Printe … amp;sr=1-2

No, neither of the routers see either of the machines or printers on either of the routers.

Lan connections as follows Modem > Router 1 > Router 2
                                                           |               |
                                                           |               |
                                                         PC              My PC

Printer is wireless running off Router 1.

there are normally 4 LAN ports on a router and 1 WAN port (usually called "Internet").  normally you connect the modem to the router via the WAN port and connect up to 4 devices via LAN, but if you want to use a router as a switch, you only use the LAN ports.  so what i'm saying is, is the Cat5 from your top router connected to a LAN port of the bottom router?  (top and bottom referring to your diagram)

I think this guy is explaining what I want. I'm not quite sure. I tried what you said brasso but it didn't work.

It noticed the PC's Connected through LAN but not the Printer. It also failed to find a DNS to connect through the internet.

oh yeah, that guy says exactly what i meant for you to do.  thing is, i forgot to say that the IP for your top router should be the standard 192.168.1.1 and that the IP for the bottom router should actually be 192.168.1.2.

anyway, you can now see the PCs connected to the main router but not the printer...strange.  i've never had a wireless printer so i can't help you there, sorry.

you don't need it in this configuration at all. just hook your PC up to the first one.

second:

if you still want that router for some reason, make sure you've done what brasso said, which basically means all ports i marked red are LAN ports.

lastly, make sure that all the devices have unique IP addresses - that includes routers. if you have ip addresses issued by the router, make sure that only one router - the first one - have DHCP server functionality turned on. the second one is only there to act as a switch.
