We had one for several months in a light shaft on our terrace beneath a rubber mat.
I regularly fed her flies that I smack with the flyswatter. She grew really huge (~100mm leg diameter) until recently.
Now the summer is gone and she's gone too.
The pattern on her abdomen had a nice cobalt blue gloss. I should have made pictures.
Hope she found a warm spot in our cellar or garage for the winter.

At first i thought it was like a bit of dired plant or a big tomato crown, but a closer look confirmed that it wasn't.
It was one big mutherfucker (for Dutch standards).

I fed it to my gecko.

Spiders never really bothered me. What bothers me is the annoying flying biting insects that the spiders eat. I don't squish bugs unless they bite me (gnats, horseflies, ect). If they are in the house I use a keg cup to trap them then slide under some paper to seal it. Then I release them outside.

here's a pic of a tarantula i found last night summer on my driveway. (taken at night with a flashlight and my shitty camera)

too bad i hardly ever see em. most likely a male as they spend summer nights traveling to find a female to mate with.

you can pick em up too. pretty docile.
