We can't even make or move stones this big. How did a civilization thousands of years older than ours construct and move something this large?

We aren't more advanced than we once were.

That stone is 1,242 tons.
Beat you by 8 tonnes.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bronze_Horseman

The statue's pedestal is the enormous Thunder Stone, claimed to be the largest stone ever moved by man (1,250 t).
Or even more when you consider this

The initial stone was about 2000 tonnes and was carved during its transit to the current site.
https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/9/9f/Bronze_Horseman002.jpg/450px-Bronze_Horseman002.jpg

The Thunder Stone is sometimes claimed to be the "largest stone ever moved by man". This stone was large and heavy; it was effectively moved 6 km (3.7 mi) overland to the Gulf of Finland by manpower alone; no animals or machines were used. Transported by barge up the Neva River, it reached St. Petersburg. The entire effort is considered an historic engineering feat.

The great pyramid in Egypt wasn't cheap to build either. They had to bring in immigrant labor from the Levant to have enough workers to get it done. It was also covered in gold and limestone. You can't just keep building something that expensive all over the place. It's like saying why haven't we built more statues of liberty all over the place.

Please don't invoke history to make religious claims. Thanks.

Are you aware that "ALL CULTURES BEGAN SUDDENLY" and were fully developed? A long preliminary period is not supported by archaeology. Before cities on earth, there was nothing. There was no transition whatsoever between the ancient civilizations and any primitive forebearers. They were at their peak from the beginning.

I'll look all that up and see what I can come up with. Interesting stone at St. Petersberg.

Hey I've changed my mind on things before. Apparently I'm wrong about the rock thing. I'll admit it once I read up more on that stone in St. Petersburg. How did they move it via land though? They used a barge on the river.

Yep

The bones, tools, texts, buildings, etc. are all the same, but you and I have different ways of looking at them.

Doesn't it ever make you wonder why the biggest pyramid is also the oldest? Why were all the ones built after it smaller and of less good quality? You'd think they'd be improving over time right? Bible has an answer for little things like that as with many others. What's your excuse?

Yes, I look at it through the discovery, research and study of science and think about the logic behind such claims. You're going to a church and being told what you should believe without evidence nor proof.

No becasue it wasn't, step pyramids preceded it.

I suspect they got tired, bored, or maybe their economy couldn't bear the cost of building huge fucken pyramids.

Evolution didn't just drop out of the sky and become commonly accepted ffs. The concept has been put to the test by countless of generations of scientists in the past 150 years and has survived every attempt at falsification (an integral part of proving a theory). These creationists have no leg to stand on whatsoever in their denial of evolution and are really just a bunch of zealots offering up their little holy book with prophet talk as a valid alternative to 150 years of actual reason.

They have no credibility whatsoever. Rather than observing and learning from nature they dictate it.

Because God said it's a sin. Not sure how good this site is, and if it's a true (KJV believing site), but the verses speak for themselves. What the Bible says about homosexuality
I guess Alexander the Great and 90% of the hellenic civilisation are in hell now.

shifty i've said it in another thread and i'll say it again:

do whatever you can to take control of your life, now, whilst you can, as a young man

get out of your current schooling situation and say FUCK YOU to your family on this one

it'll be the hardest thing you've ever done, breaking out of the social and cultural pressures that are on you to be religious and do what they want

but it'll be the best thing you have EVER done for yourself.

otherwise i seriously fear that you'll end up being 30, hating your parents, hating your dysfunctional family, hating your fraudulent, money-grabbing pastor and his bigotry, hating the fact that you have missed any real chance of ever acquiring an education. hating the fact that people in adult life will basically look at you sideways and with an empty friendly-grin, wondering about your childhood upbringing in a cult. i really fear that by age 40 you'll be tired of working as a travelling salesman with no education, and you'll feel just so damn tired of thinking that your entire life has been a lie, and you'll feel so goddamn angry and that motel room will be all so empty and that gun barrel will look all so attractive...

It is a horrible idea that there is somebody who owns us, who makes us, who supervises us, waking, and sleeping, who knows our thoughts, who can convict us of thought-crime, who can judge us while we sleep for things that might occur to us in our dreams, who can create us sick, as apparently we are, and then order us – on pain of eternal torture – to be well again. To demand this, to wish this to be true, is to wish to live as an abject slave. It is a wonderful thing that we now have enough information, enough intelligence, and – I hope – enough intellectual and moral courage to say that this ghastly proposition is founded on a lie, and to celebrate that fact.

I don't know why I'm bothering with a serious reply here, but oh well.

Shifty is entitled to believe what he wants. There is no point bashing him for it. Clearly he likes and is happy believing what he does

But damn son, some of your arguments in this thread were dumb!

Apart from the first pyramid not actually being the biggest, how would it being the biggest in any way disprove evolution? That's like saying, because we build smaller houses than after having built mansions, evolution does not exist

Also, as for homosexuality being a sin. I find the thought of two men having any sexual contact disgusting. However I don't think they're bad people for it, it just ain't for me. But to base what you think of those people on a book written thousands of years ago, in a dead language, and translated and rewritten hundreds of times by different people is mad. Type a paragraph of bible verse in to google translate, translate it into ten different languages, then back to english. How similar is it?
After doing that, again consider what you said about how people look at facts differently... Every time the bible has been translated, its meaning has changed depending on how it was interpreted by the translator. To say something like homosexuality is a sin based on that is crazy.

Also look at almost every other sin, they are all based on the fact that they have negative consequences on the people involved or those around them... Homosexuality? Not really. One of the translators was probably homophobic and chose to interpret a passage differently, which has then filtered down thru the ages. There is no reason for "god" to dislike gay people
