Laptop for Parents

So my parents are looking to replace their computer circa 2002 with a laptop that they can use in any room in the house. The only thing it needs to do is browse the internet. Ideally they would be able to hook it up to a monitor when they want to use it in the office, although we haven't looked at which monitor this would be. Nothing over 19', I'm sure.

Cheaper is better, but some durability would be nice, too.

Any recommendations?

EDIT- They seem to think Dell laptops are well worth the money, partly because their PC and my laptop are both Dells. Should I steer them clear?

Brought it up when they first asked me for advice, and I've come to find that my mother has a deep hatred for all things Apple. I think they like the windows experience too much to switch to an Apple product.

I'm in the same situation. Tried netbook as well, even the 11" one's. Too small. Looking for a 15.5 WS now. But I'm waiting to see how Black Friday prices go to get proper price points.

As for Dell laptops, personally, for consumers and white collar, they are the best. Get them an i3 configuration for long battery life.

Can definitely recommend HP laptops. Got my girlfriend a DV3 (13") earlier this year and she loves the hell out of it. Solid build, light, etc. I suppose the screen will be too small (res is 1366 x 768, iirc), but HP has a lot really nice laptops. The best part is the lack of crapware that comes preinstalled.

HP or Lenovo. Never had a problem with my HP probook, and the only problems I've had with my wifes lenovo were pebkac errors caused by her cause she knows I will fix it.

This. Stay away from HP. Personal experience added to that statistic. As Shahter notes, nice looking and nice features, but shitty quality. They don't last.

The HDD on my girlfriend's HP died today. Wouldn't boot, wouldn't run - nothing. Took it out and it's a WD Scorpio Black, not any cheap shit at all. Two weeks I have to share my rig with her now.

I honestly don't think HP is bad. Anyone can get a bad HDD. Aside from today's incident, I wouldn't say HP is bad.
