I bought my first ever vinyl yesterday and it's pretty damn cool. I love having a giant version of the album art, love the heft of the records, but unfortunately I cannot play them!!

Does anyone here listen to vinyl? What turntables, amps, speakers etc do you recommend? I'm trying to get the best value, I don't need a $1000 turntable for instance but I also don't want a shitty $50 that doesn't play the record properly.

I inherited a bunch of old ones, beatles and such. Honestly using some meh all in player. Works fine, and has not killed any records yet.

Such a hipster.

What in the world are you doing with your life, Martin?

If you want to play them, use the digital versions. Lossless flac would sound better than the best possible amp/turntables setup you can imagine.

There's no point buying vinyl unless you're doing so as a collector. In which case I would reccomend led zeppelin or the rolling stones, who put quite a lot of effort into the vinyl designs.

um analogue vinyl is a far better sound than lossless digital, you fucking mong. that's why people buy vinyl - because it has a warmth and fullness of sound that you cannot get in a cold, sterile digital file. not to mention using an actual dedicated amp. what the fuck are you talking about? music played through an original analogue source using a dedicated sound amplifier will sound worse than some digital 0's and 1's downloaded from the internet and squeezed through a crappy onboard sound driver with all the other electric noise of a pc? stop talking.

hurri get a second hand technics sl1200. only turntable you'll ever need.

Personally, I like the sound of records better than digital formats. It's just that they're impractical to tote everywhere.

Valve radio sounds better than transistor radio, same for amps, it doesn't mean the fidelity is higher or that the sound is 'better', just that the human ear likes it better.

The less you see them, the more underground they are.

I have two Dual turntables with Shure cartrige.  Honest performance for the price tag.  (From way back then)
Technics SL-1200 MKII are the best price quality ratio you can get.

Technics or bust.

My parents and uncle used those "back in the day".

there ARE lots of perfectly good alternatives... it's just that the wheels of steel are pretty damn robust, and the last thing a casual music listener wants is to have to repair a belt-drive turntable, or anything more than replacing a needle/cartridge. technics are the reliable 'buy and use' option.
