I know an xbox can be hooked up to an PC LCD monitor, so I went ahead and got this awesome deal on a 22'' Samsung 1080P.

My xbox has an HDMI, and an A/V port. The screen has a DVI and VGA port. How do I hook them up, with what, and I want to hookup a headset instead of a stereo system.

What do I need, and how do I do it? +2 for help (+1 for help, and +1 if it worked)

thanks

E* Found this at gamestop, but I still need a way to hook up my headset and all I have is a DVI port left.

Um I have a VGA->Xbox cord, works the treat. Comes with just a basic red/white audio out.
Let me try and find it somewhere.

HDMI->DVI adapter for the video
https://www.tvcables.co.uk/images/items/hdmi-dvi-adapter.jpg

Right+Left->Jack adapter for the sound
https://www.majadu.co.uk/ekmps/shops/majadu/images/3.5mm-mini-jack-stereo-socket-to-2-x-plugs-lead-cable-3m-676-p.jpg

EDIT: HDMI->DVI adapters come free with most recent GPU's, everyone who has worked with PC's in the past 5 years should have spares lying around...

Right+Left->Jack adapters are pretty cheap

Err yea just looked at the edit, thats the one I have too.
I thought a red/white to a green computer output came with it. I had one kicking around anyways...
They shouldn't cost too much to buy separately though.

You

I actually figured out the DVI to HDMI instead of VGA to AV. So now it's just getting a headset hooked up.

Turtlebeaches, IIRC, have a USB and two pairs of red/white male cables. What headset should I buy and how would I hook it up to the remaining AV port and USB ports.

get one of these innit
That won't work since it's female in both ends
I assumed Xbox had standard Left+Right output like all modern Audio/video equipment

If it's a simple Right+Left output you can just buy a "right+left male to 3.5mm jack female" adapter like I posted a picture of above and plug any non-usb headset into that...

Built so they can sell you extra accessories to connect it to anything usefull I see

Then buy what he said... but if you plan on using a headset with mic. you might want to buy one made for Xbox.. Don't they use USB?

There is.

Why did you not just buy a monitor with a HDMI port?

How would that be different FFLink?

I can always return this for full price (<3 Costco) but I think this will work.

Gonna borrow my friend's turtlebeach headsets and see what I can do.

It not really a big deal, HDMI-DVI adapters are so easy to find and there is no quality loss by using them...

Wait is there a quality loss for VGA to DVI or VGA to AV or DVI to AV?

Am I going to get a quality loss?

Anything involving digital to analog or analog to digital conversion will result in quality loss, whether it's noticeable or not I don't know...

HDMI & DVI = Digital
VGA = Analog

Good I'll get an HDMI to DVI converter and use the A/V port for my headset. No quality loss

Still don't understand the headset part...

You still didn't answer if you plan on using a dedicated Xbox360 headset with microphone. If you do it more likely uses a USB connection...

EDIT: It's not so hard to understand Shifty, PC and Mediaplayer headsets use 3.5mm jack plugs for both microphone and both audio-channels respectively, the ones that are made for consoles are connected differently because of the lack of these standardized ports.

I want a microphone yes, but how does that matter since there are plenty of USB ports. Unless of course, the sound and micophone go in/out via USB. how does that work?

I tried googling Xbox360 headsets to show you how they are connected, but apparently they use a single 3.5mm jack for both Mic. and Sound which makes no sense to me at all...

I give up on understanding the complete backwards logic of not using standardized ports for consoles... find someone who has an Xbox to help you figure the headset out... I doubt you need that AV-thing you bought at all if you use HDMI + headset since the headsets I googled all plug in to the bottom of the controller

The ones that plug into the controller only give you VOIP and microphone, you can't hear the game.

I don't get that chart.

All I want is to be able to use a headset for game audio, and as a microphone. Can't that just be done via USB these days? We do we need PC headsets into PCs with two cables (pink and green) and with xboxes (USB + red cable + white cable) ?!

There are PC USB headsets available...

But just buy one made for Xbox that you know will work... there were cheaper options on the site I posted above, no idea about brands, I just found that site because you mentioned that brand...
